A lot of the Leeds hatred amongst City fans goes back to when we were playing really entertaining football in late 60s and turn of that decade, yet you would still see people in Hull and surrounds with Leeds colours. So they might not consider us their rivals, but the dislike is real and well-grounded.

I consider Hull Fc to be our rival. I have yet to meet one of their fans who also genuinely supports Hull City. i know loads who despise football, or 'wendy ball' as they used to call it and plenty more who pin their support to who ever is top of the Premier League, anyone but Hull City. Which I find odd as they have written across their shirts 'proud to be local' or something equally as bizarre. Could be getting them mixed up with The League of Gentlemen ? Their fans (and management) hate us more than the fans of any football league club does.

Beat me to it. After thinking about it, I was left thinking the same.

I've been following City since '69 and can say that I don't think we've really got a proper footballing rival. And certainly not in the sense of say Newcastle / Sunderland, Norwich / Ipswich, Pompy / Southampton, the obvious big city rivalries and Leeds / Bradford. As others have said, there's a scale of dislike of certain clubs, but that doesn't make for rivalries.

It's wrong and a real shame that there is, albeit as a generality, this Hull RL / City 'rivalry'. Maybe if there was only 1 RL club in the city it might be different.

Of course, it should be one of FC / KR + City ..... and vice versa, even if it's only a passive +. The Hull RL / City 'rivalry' simply smacks of jealousy, small mindedness, scarcity mentality.

That’s a proper rugby town mentality.

Anyone who supports Hull FC or Hull KR but any football club other than City is a wall-punching ignoramus, in my experience.

What about people who inherit their football club from parents?

So long as that club isn’t Man U or Liverpool.

Debates around whether or not club X are a rival are incredibly tired.

We clearly don't have a local rival like some clubs do. There isn't another serious clubs for miles in any direction.

Some clubs are just horrible though, so a lot of people hate them. Leeds, and Sheff United, chiefly. It doesn't have to be reciprocated, why would it be? We aren't hateable but they are. It's not a rivalry or a derby in either case, just a lot of City fans really dislike them.

always liked the games against york
but we've not played them in a competitive fixture for about 20 years
similar to grimsby

I agree. I don’t like Leeds at all but then neither does the rest of the PL and EFL. We don’t have a rivalry with them. Trying to force one makes us look tinpot. City fans who obsess over Leeds remind me of this scene:

I don’t see Leeds as a rival however I do dislike them and it is due to Hull based supporters glee over our demise in the past. Probably due to my age. Don’t get me started on Sheffield Utd.

What would you consider us as? If you go by dialect, then East Riding and North Riding/North Yorkshire have more authentic Yorkshire dialects whereas West and South Yorkshire have more Midlands-influenced dialects.

Well I wouldn’t be deciding my allegiances based on dialect
If I did we’d have to discount East Hull!

I don’t feel any allegiance to Yorkshire.

I consider myself to be from Hull, and I consider the East Riding to be Hull too…

"Town full of Leeds fans". Shame their town isn't with rugby being the dominant game, at least within the city boundaries. They're either from completely out of the area, or one of the surrounding ****holes like Wakefield, Pontefract or Castleford
I love Yorkshire, the only problem is that it has the TWS included.
I don't see Leeds as part of Yorkshire. They're so up themselves that I just see them as a completely separate entity

A Leeds fan, a Sheff W fan and a Sheff U fan are all sat in a pub together having a pint.
There’s a massive bang on the door of the pub and in falls an angry looking Hull City fan.
The City fan points at the Sheff W fan and says “You’re deluded and you think yours is the biggest club in the world”.
He points at the Leeds fan and says “Your up yourself”.
He points at the Sheff U fan and says “You’re all just horrible people”.
The Leeds &Sheff fans all look at each other, shrug their shoulders and then get on with their perfectly cordial chat.
An onlooking Grimsby fan Turns around to his mate and says “Christ I”m going to avoid Hull if that’s what they are all like.”
His Scunthorpe supporting friend says “It’s not really fair to judge a whole city based on one idiot”.
Grimsby fan says “Yes fair enough that’s a very good point”.
