We've played them a few times in the league as we have most clubs but the rivalry is in some people's heads. Leeds U fans dont see us as rivals, they don't even consider us a part of Yorkshire. We didn't play them at all for nearly 20 years whist we climbed the league and they dropped down them. The 'local grown scum' who latch onto them are a problem, but you could say that about most of the Premier League clubs the local bandwagoners latch onto. Having said that I have no sympathy for their present situation born out of the disrespect the Leeds fans I have met have for us. The feeling is mutual but I don't consider them as rivals. I certainly wouldn't give them the satisfaction that they thought we were interested enough in them to be posting on their fans forums.
I think a few are falling into the trap of confusing dislike with rivalry. Like the Blunts fans thinking we see them as rivals. Most of us don't, we just don't like them
If it means being tarred with the same brush as the loudmouth arrogant wessies, which is what most outsiders think a typical Yorkshireman is, I don't want anything to do with it!
Not sure about that. Sometimes a particular manager just suits a particular club and for me that's Jones and Luton. Luton obviously buy into his ethos / management style, but he bombed at Stoke and I don't see him keeping Southampton in the PL this season. He is to Luton what Darren Ferguson is to Peterborough - their "go to" man. I reckon he'll be back there within 2-3 years (or the next time Luton's season is going pear shaped)
Blades fans really did some marvelous mental gymnastics to convince that we really despised them. End result is I actually do now
I never bought the rivalry with Scunthorpe and Grimsby. Never cared about either, beyond the fact that they take up space on Humberside on match days. They should be rivals with Lincoln. Now York on the other hand…
Everyone we play is a rival. I have a sliding scale of dislike, ranging for “not arsed” to “abhor”. Each club has a place along the scale.
I agree. I don’t like Leeds at all but then neither does the rest of the PL and EFL. We don’t have a rivalry with them. Trying to force one makes us look tinpot. City fans who obsess over Leeds remind me of this scene:
I consider Hull Fc to be our rival. I have yet to meet one of their fans who also genuinely supports Hull City. i know loads who despise football, or 'wendy ball' as they used to call it and plenty more who pin their support to who ever is top of the Premier League, anyone but Hull City. Which I find odd as they have written across their shirts 'proud to be local' or something equally as bizarre. Could be getting them mixed up with The League of Gentlemen ? Their fans (and management) hate us more than the fans of any football league club does.
What would you consider us as? If you go by dialect, then East Riding and North Riding/North Yorkshire have more authentic Yorkshire dialects whereas West and South Yorkshire have more Midlands-influenced dialects.
Nor does Middlesex, no one told their cricket team and their supporters. Abridged version, **** the boundary bodgers. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
