I would assume the currently planned additions are on the basis no one leaves, and then where necessary it will be one out one in - obviously after the squad trimming Rosenior wants.
I knew a Hell Raiser like you wouldn't leave it. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Sinik not making the 18 today is a bit of an eye opener. From Tan's interview, it certainly appears that Tufan & Sinik are on the way out. With Connolly & Ebiowei coming in too & Tetteh not being far away either, they're probably going to struggle to get into the squad
Sinik had an injury didn't he? Connolly shouldn't be coming in on the assumption he'll start, he needs to prove he's good enough as he's been **** wherever he's gone.
Rosenior said in his post match that he was left out as he felt the same lads deserved to go again after Birmingham, with Coyle being the only change. I don't think Connolly will be walking into the XI, but he'll be making the bench at least. If Rosenior hadn't managed him before, it would be a real questionable signing
Interesting, strange as I would have thought he could have been on the bench as an attacking option if needed. Obviously it worked out but we really only had Smith on the bench and on the face of it that doesn't inspire confidence (as I said, obviously this game he did).
I agree, there wasn't much on the bench to change a game. I always find having 2 full backs on the bench odd. Smith has been looking miles better under LR but he's still got a long way to go before we can rely on him regularly
But even though the summer business was mixed, the players we brought in are worth more than what we paid as a collective, so that plan is working. It's heavily swayed by Oscar being worth 8 figures but tweak the recruitment and we're on to a huge winner
Sure but Oscar isn't one we'd want to sell immediately. It means if we're selling Sinik and Tufan this summer we're out of pocket (as their entire fee would then be expensed in that window as a loss which IS an FFP hit), and you're almost looking at needing to sell Oscar or Greaves to fund more purchases, which then gambles on finding adequate replacements for them. It could work, but it becomes a risky prospect if you're seeing more duds than successes. Whisper it quietly, and it may just be rust following his injury, but I'm not even sure if we'll see a profit on Ally..
If Oscar gets to 20 goals for this season, it's going to be extremely tough trying to keep him. His track record is extremely good too, he's scored goals everywhere he's been. There's going to be lots of suitors willing to pay big money. I don't think we'll lose much on Tufan & Sinik. The biggest question mark over Tufan was his ability to get fit again which he's done and he's looking good. Going back to Turkey, a league he's excelled in, makes him a pretty safe and cheap bet at £2/3m. Sinik is similar, there will be plenty of interest from Turkey, he's done well over there previously and he's still young and a regular for the national team. Maybe he doesn't suit English football, but that doesn't make him a bad player. Maybe worse case scenario we'll see 2/3s of what we paid for them.
I'd agree I'm more confident in getting a return on Tufan. Something seems off with Sinik. Saw some Turkish fans saying that his Turkish caps don't mean much because the manager was experimenting with a bunch of players, so I'm not so sure teams would be looking to pick him up, but you might be right. I think if Oscar wants to be here next season he stays, he seems to have settled in well. But as you say, if he does go we'd be looking for a significant fee. I think he'll have three years remaining at the end of the season (2 years + 1 year option?) so should be able to hold out for whatever we want.
Hope you wrong about Ally but I agree, he looks dangerous but his end product looks a bit off. Hopefully he can stay fit and play a run of games and time will tell. We’ve been spoilt with Bowen, Grosicki and KLP in these positions really where a level above the Champ when on form.
We’re happy to let Smith out on loan according to Nixon at the Sun. It was difficult to see him making the squad with Oscar, Tetteh and Connolly all soon available
