I think people misunderstand Darnborough's role slightly. He's head of recruitment, but that doesn't mean he's personally identifying players I don't think. We have a chief scout who works under him and presumably a team of scouts under that. The chief scout works with the manager of the team to understand what kinds of players he wants and tries to find them. I think Darnborough's role is heading it all up, probably a lot of standard management type stuff.

Sort of this, he's the bloke who makes the phone calls to agents and clubs to bid for players and sorts out the contracts, finances and other bits and bobs. The Chief Scout is the go between from scouts to the Head of Recruitment.

However, it is also the job of the head of recruitment to vet the targets in terms of financials and overall ability as it's him who has to get clearance from Tan to make the deal happen. That clearly hasn't been happening, though it makes sense that a lot of our previous signings have been dross as Ehab would have looked at potential wages and gone "yep." straight away.

8 of the team who did very well last night came into the team under Grant McCann and 7 of them I think were recruited by Lee Darnborough (Greaves the exception). They are keeping out of the team several more recent recruits who I suspect Lee Darnborough had little to do with, Given he's had not much money to play with, I don't think he's done too badly! Oh and of the 3 recruits in the team more recent than the McCann era, (Christie, Seri, Oscar) , I wouldn't be surprised if Christie was a Darnborough recruit?

Exactly, those players came in either at League One level or when we were on the slide into League One, I'm not faulting LD's ability at that level, he has a half decent knowledge of the English game and was very tightly restricted by Ehab's measures. It's not that they won't ever have a good games or make an impact, they just lack the quality to see us progress as a side. This time next year I'd be very surprised if any of the 7 you mentioned were still at the club.

According to to the summer transfer thread we had 15 new arrivals yet still playing with most of the ones who were already with us.

Guler will go to Ajax. He has a clause in his contract if he doesn’t play half the games he can go for 20 million. He’s literally the one of the best prospects of his age in the game, and it’s absolutely insane he’s not playing.

Some kid from Turkey you've never heard of, the next messi or Ronald, better in fact. Only 22 so will be getting some experience in the under 23s unless we loan him out to some non league club which would be even better for his development, you know bulk him up and bit playing competitive games. 25,000 grand a week I heard but he's worth it, seen every game he played since he was 10.

And he's injured by the way, will be like a new signing when he finally kicks a ball in anger for us next season, unless we've sold him for millions by then.

Billed as the best young player since Harvey Vale

A fair few are interested in him, but from what I'm hearing he really fancies rangers

So he fancies playing in a league that only has 2-3 teams that can only realistically win and will pretty much have guaranteed European competition qualification every season, mmmm...

Garang Kuol has enough points to get a work permit after moving to Newcastle, so is now likely to go on loan to the Scottish Premier League or Championship. Would love us to have a crack at him.
