The thing that surprises me about VAR is that nobody thinks it is odd that the Laws are so poorly written that if the ref had given the Kane penalty then the VAR would not have overturned it. So an almost certain goal, which could and would have altered the match result is entirely a matter of the opinion of the ref.
It is ridiculous that that is the outcome. The Laws should be clearer and less open to interpretation.

Maybe it needs some radical thinking. Perhaps the VAR ref should be the senior ref (also in charge of timekeeping for example) and the guy on the field is just his "agent". Basically make it commonplace for the VAR guy to overrule. Yes will obviously take some getting used to. Three points for a win took some getting used to. Changing the old offside rules got some getting used to. But there must be something in this even if you wouldn't go that far. This could also mean that the refs who can no longer keep up on the field, but are still experienced, do not have the experience lost and can carry on off the field. Basically as well as the "mystical" role of VAR being reviewed, which is desperately needed, we also need to sort out timekeeping. With time lost in added time not added on, and all sorts of other things. A major problem is how the timekeeping at the World Cup is completely different to the Premier League. How did the WC come up with so much extra time? I suspect that the WC timekeeping is actually more correct, but one of the two systems must be wrong.

Can't have officials being made to look anything but infallible

Even though, by throwing a ring of silence around them after every ****up, they look anything but infallible

It doesn’t need to be radical. Just allow the on field ref to be able to refer events to an off field TV ref when he’s not sure. This happens successfully in other sports. At least then the technology is being used to try to get the decision right first time rather then as a means of a review.
But football does have a number of rules which need to be tightened up and made clearer before any official can apply them correctly. Handball is a farce; offside is unnecessarily complicated. And the main issue is deciding just what contact is permitted in a contact sport.

Or just tell the VAR people to do the job properly.
The red scum v claret scum match the other day was a great example of their stupidity.
Oliver gave a penalty for handball when it hit a defender in the face.
VAR referred him to the screen to have a look. It was clearly wrong. Just tell him and change it.

The Ream goal? They changed the rules again, so Mitrovic handling doesn't matter.
Ludicrous red for Tomkins that Mitrovic totally bought with another one of his dives, though.
Doesn't look like it on that footage, but the other red was pretty blatant, if anyone's wondering.

It certainly begs the question as to whether doing that interview with Piers Morgan was worth it. Given everything he said, and his intrinsic belief that he could still play in Europe at a high level, was it really worth pissing everyone off (affiliated to Man Utd) just so he can now stat-pad in the Saudi Pro League?

Just don't see how he's benefited from that interview other than keeping his name relevant in the media (albeit for non-footballing reasons).

His ego’s had a kicking; no decent European team wants him because of what he now brings; his star is waning (which wasn’t the case last season when Utd signed him).
So take the massive pay day; money talks.
It’s the first time he’s thought clearly in a while.

Like LIDL just said, he had no chance of any top team taking him on after his behaviour of the last few months.
This meant his only option for getting game time (and "star status") was to go somewhere trying to build their league/profile.
I think he would have struggled to get anywhere in America as their football has improved a lot over the last few years and is also very fast.
