It’s just **** selling all the likes of KLP, Greaves and co. Just to be replaced by some boring old nextman with no connection to the area who will be ****ed off elsewhere in a year or two.
The average championship wage is about £15k a week. How on earth does selling him allow us to bring in a couple of quality players. And there's no way he'll be on £20k a week either
If the average of all championship players is 15k, you'd think the average for a 1st team regular/vice captain would be above that. A 5.mil fee equates roughly to 5 years wages for someone at 20kpw. Plus the 3 or so years we save on his contract so potentially could fund a couple of good frees on 20k. I'd be wanting more though. He's only going to rise in value in the next couple of years.
Completely ignoring that we'd have to pay a transfer fee to get anyone decent in Jan. If we only got £6m for him, we'd almost certainly have to spend more on transfer fees and wages to replace him
Exactly, he’s prob not worth £5m right now, but in years to come he could easily be worth well north of £10m as a young English CB. It’s whether Acun are prepared to say no to the money now to make more in the long term.
There are plenty of players available on frees if you can afford the wages. See Oscar, Seri as just 2 recent examples. Porteus is out of contract in summer so unlikely to command much of a transfer fee. I'm not saying we should cash in though, as I've said his value is only going to rise in the next couple of years.
Really weird allocation of funds when you consider it. Sign a player like Woods on north of 10k a week and now we have to sell before we can buy due to FFP constraints. The summer recruitment was really poor when you think about it. Very unbalanced.
The thing that doesn't add up to me is, supposedly a big reason we were attractive to buy is that we had so much wiggle room for FFP, and that meant that an owner with money to invest was better off buying us than another club with a better squad. Now it seems that even with all that apparent leeway, one window of reasonably big spending (but still nothing compared to what some clubs at this level spend), is enough to wipe that all out and leave us needing to sell to buy. Surely that doesn't add up. If it was that easy to blow through the FFP leeway, then why were we supposedly so attractive to buy?
Unbalanced is probably a good description, some signings where absolutely fantastic, seri, Oscar, tetteh, ally and possibly tufan... But others like woods and the loan lads from Chelsea don't cut it. I think we tried to do to much to soon. I said from the start I personally thought we needed 3 windows and I'm sticking to it.
Has anything been said about Vale and Simons in terms of training? Have they shown that they aren't of sufficient quality?
Cardiff City have just been slapped with a transfer embargo, for failure to to pay the first instalment of the £15m transfer fee for the purchase of Emiliano Sala.
I read from the Brummie fans when we signed Woods that he was on £17/18k a week and that's why they moved him on as he was one of their highest earners. Vale will be on stupid money at Chelsea too. I bet he's on £15-20k a week as they're renowned for paying daft money to kids, he's just signed a new long term deal, was their academy player of the season and captained England u19s to a Euros win. I aren't saying we're paying it all but we'll be paying a good chunk and it's been a complete waste
My biggest concern is that Kesler came out and said he and Acun don’t have the patience for a gradual rebuild over several windows. That’s why they put all their eggs in one basket in the summer. Woods was a pointless signing and his wages could’ve been put to better use imo. Not saying we should’ve gone all out on Ndayishimiye but a player like that is what we needed to make the midfield more balanced.
Woods could have been a good signing if it wasn’t for already having signed Seri and Tufan. Obviously his form hasn’t been great which also hasn’t helped but there’s a tidy ball player hiding in there somewhere which could have come out in the right circumstances. I think he and Seri like to play a similar game.
I think we panicked with the Chelsea lads after our players started dropping like flies. 21's whether Chelsea or anywhere else doesn't prepare for mens football, which is why Chelsea 21s got dumped out of the Pappa John's 4-0 by Colchester. Vale seems to be more ready than Simons but once we get players fit neither will get near the first team. They were cover, surely? Woods probably is on 17/18k which is why, if you think about it, we probably are close to our FFP permitted losses as there will be several of the summer signings on considerably more - and remember we're committed to these contracts for the duration, its not just this year we have to be mindful of.
I did wonder with Greaves going to LB and Elder preferred on the bench. Great going forward but is he defensively astute enough?
