I dont profess to know about FFP, but I'm presuming the leeway had a lot to do with the small wages we were paying as opposed to our generated income, given we have signed a lot of players on better wages I suspect that is the issue. I'm pretty sure FFP was brought in to stop clubs spending more then they could guarantee in income streams. So in simple terms I'm suspecting we need to lose a few wages before we bring in any more.

Well I'd take losing Greaves over Tufan.. thought we have to assume we have cover at LB for Fleming if Elder is on his way too...

I would be disappointed if Sinik left, he finally looks fit and is playing in his preferred right hand side position. I hope he stays.

Wonder if that would suggest Ros doesn’t rate him, or maybe he’s really struggling to settle

    Translation.
Hull City owner Acun Ilıcalı will make an offer to Galatasaray for the exchange of Yusuf Demir and Doğukan Sinik.

I can only think while not technically limited, Acun is trying to operate responsibly, which is to be commended, but leads to a bit of a misunderstanding of our position.

As you say, we've seen a huge increase in sponsorship income, and player sales, and while we've ramped up wages and transfer fees, I don't believe we have to the extent that our hands are literally tied.

I'd also be disappointed if Greaves goes for less than 10m considering he's just signed a new deal. I could only imagine it would include a release clause to a PL club for less than 10m which could eventuate.

We don't know to what extent the sponsorship income has gone up ( it's obviously more then we used to get, but we don't know for sure how much ) the first set of accounts under acun's ownership will make for interesting reading and hopefully shead light on where we are on that side of things. I think our wage bill will surprise some also.

As you quite rightly say though, acun may just be trying to be sensible

I would be shocked if it's not multiples above what we got last season. Corendon was reported as a record sponsorship deal for us in the Championship, we have that shorts sponsor crypto firm (although with the history of those deals in sport who knows how much income that'll actually bring in), we have Efes, we still have Giacom in a reduced deal, there should be a lot of commerical income.

Add to that the increased gates and memberships, the KLP fee, there's a lot of reason to believe our income has vastly increased on our seasons under McCann.

The increased membership would be an interesting one, I'd love to see a breakdown of how many we have in each age category, as if a big proportion of the Increased numbers are kids, then the increase from memberships may not be as big ( but even having those bodies in buying merch/food/drink etc all helps )

Giacom is the only one I've seen numbers for and it's quite small, the crypto I dread to think what that is haha. But as you say, there's absolutely no doubt the income is more ( wouldn't take much to be if we are honest )

Yes our income has probably vastly increased but our out goings have definitely vastly increased as well. I've no real insight into financials, but Id say we will be running at a loss, it's just how much that loss is and the longer it takes for us to go up, the bigger that loss will probably become ( unless we get a very big player sale or 2 )

Hopefully when accounts are published, things will become clearer

£5m for a centre half who’s not good enough to play centre half in a defence as bad as ours.

    Nobody will be offering that.

Yeah, interesting one. I know WBA have scouted him a fair amount this season, even given their league position it would be hard for us to turn down a decent offer from them.

He was on loan at Barcelona last season and Gala just paid €6m for him. I'd be very surprised if they wanted to swap him for Sinik, who has only just broken into our first team after six months. At 19 years old I'm not sure coming into a relegation battle in the Championship would be good for his development either.

That's your Rochdale mate. No wonder it turned Mrs Orange's head.

Just on the wages, the contracts of the newer players are much, much higher, but they had to be in order to draw them here. I don't know the exact amounts, but this is a paraphrase of what I was given:

"The wages of the newer players are much more than the lads that are already here. Tufan, Oscar and Seri are on north of £20k a week. Seri's U-turn came after he was offered a wage to match Tufan (so presumably he wasn't originally). Even the likes of Christie and Figgy are on more than £10k a week and they were free agents."

If it's safe to assume Woods and Sinik are also on more than £10k a week as new signings, plus we can assume Greaves' new contract put him north of that as well, then we're looking at a wage budget of well over £120k p/w minimum. That's £6.2m just on first team players. If you add on, say, another (minimum) £25k a week total for the manager, assistants, coaching staff, analysts, scouts, head of performance etc, academy staff that goes up to £7.5m. Non-footballing staff I have no idea about, but I can't imagine the board members are on cheap money. Academy player contracts vary, but I'm sure I remember reading that they get a small remuneration of about £150 a week until they sign pro terms, where they usually land on anywhere between £400-£600 p/w depending on how close they are to the first team, potential, development etc. So for every seven academy players in the U18s, that's another £1k (1.05k technically). There are 20 full time U18s at the moment, so that's £2.9k a week extra (£150k ish). There are 17 U21s, assuming they are all on the minimum £400 a week (which they won't be, no way is Tim LT on £400 a week and I know Snelgrove isn't) that's £353k minimum. So around £500,000 a year on professional academy wages.

Our wage costs in 2020-21 were £8.4m, which includes all staff (including execs and board members) as well, divided by 52 makes about £162k a week. We now have more coaching staff and a better manager, who will no doubt be on more than McCann was. I've been very rough with my figures and pretty conservative, but it's easy to see how quickly wages can impact turnover, especially when you consider just how many people work for Hull City AFC. I don't know if bonuses are worked into wages either.

By the way, please feel free to bollocks that if you need to, some may know more than me in terms of wages and staffing costs.

This discussion has been had a few times and I think it just keeps coming back to it all being supposition until we see the figures - in terms of how much of a loss we're running at. I have no doubt your wage figures would likely be accurate (although keep in mind anything in association with the Academy doesn't count to FFP).

    Why would it?

He's got 4.5 years left on his deal

I heard Greaves was on north of 20k a week. If so, I’d happily accept a good offer, 6m+ perhaps, and reinvest that money on a couple of quality players. He’s a good defender but certainly not irreplaceable.
