We're all hostage to our past but some are held in nastier prisons, yet you are not your past! Like Scrooge being shown his past life try to look for the better you and keep hold of him. Writing about it can help sort out things and help put your past behind you once and for all.

Remember, the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. Christmas is just the day upon which we chose to celebrate, so your Christmas can be any day with your boys that you want. Some countries open presents on Christmas eve, some not until Epiphany on Jan 6th, then again you could always choose to celebrate as per the orthodox calendar and have Christmas on Jan 7th!

Personally I'll be glad to see the back of this year. Lost my Mam early on in the year, then the wife was diagnosed with PSP which is a terminal illness. The only highlight was The Lads promotion. Me and my Dad will be drowning our sorrows in the local on Christmas day.

    Top Man, that's a wonderful gesture! :emoticon-0139-bow::emoticon-0137-clapp

Just don't forget to make them sign a waiver to not hold you responsible at low for any stress, worry, upset or despondency, etc, :emoticon-0105-wink:

    I'll be thinking of you

In fact why don't we all light a candle and raise a glass together at midday; toasting our 606 community, our loved ones and those we have lost, may they live still in our heart and our mind?

We could post pictures in a separate thread

Hark, the herald angel has sung and, though late in time, behold him come - the draig family Christmas tree! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good pint! 20221215_164747.jpg

I've only just came on this post again tonight because mentally I've not been in a good place with my personal life.
The ex moves out on Wed, she's managed to get a place before Xmas luckily so I can now move on in life.
I'm sorry to bring a downer on you all, thanks for the kind words and Haway the lads.

Just me and Mrs at home Xmas day DTR and SIL are coming across for buffet drinks and music which we all enjoy.

Now don't get me wrong I don't begrudge others their Xmas celebrations especially those with young families. But I'm not one for the hype and commercialism surrounding. I always have my customary moan when it appears to start earlier each year.
Used to thoroughly enjoy it as a kid though even though it was only an orange and game of solitaire in Xmas stocking. Was greatfull for small mercies but today some folk seem to go totally ott imo.
Mrs fusses around a bit with flower arrangements and decorations etc and I just let her get on with it
No big meal Xmas day either just a small heat up meal from Lidls. Can obviously afford more but I don't like Mrs slaving over a hot stove

It's heartwarming that this thread, every year, seems to provide a platform for joy and a comfort for pain ...

... whether we choose to believe it or not we all need to share those things now and again.

It is likely that when you fall to sleep and dream tonight, you will find yourself in 3 consecutive different places, the past, present and future.
Then when you wake up you will rush to the nearest farm shop and buy the biggest turkey/goose on sale and will give it to the single parent poor family of lots of kids down the road. You might even smile and laugh a little, dispelling your curmudgeonly mien.
