agree, like Chris Houghton or Chris Wilder
Both could sort this current mess out
With Dawson as No2

Heard good things about hughton. Don't see why people dismiss him and promote Wilder as both have their last jobs as a blot on their CV whilst having a very good prior record. If Hughton could replicate whet he did at Brighton here then I'd actually take him over Wilder personally.

And the other two who don't run? Seri and Tufan in the starting 11 doesn't work for me

no one was slating Tufan after the Wigan game. Like I said I’m not convinced it’ll work but it’s surely worth a go as our midfield has been complete ****e without them playing together, and at least they should help us keep hold of the ball.

Who are the other option with slater suspended? Woods? Seri lite. Jones? Clumsy and not really mobile in midfield. Cannon? ****e. Doc, looked poor further back last year as he’s limited on the ball. Looks better with license to run at opposition and harry up the field.

I'm not slating Tufan. We have a real problem with the imbalance of our midfield but playing two less than fully mobile midfielders won't help IMO. If we wanted to build a team around Seri we should have signed a couple of midfield minders for him.

Who do you suggest starts in midfield this weekend? I agree recruitment could’ve been better/smarter, but we’re in the position we are now until Jan earliest.

It's what we seem to be lacking - but it's far easier for some to just accuse the players of being **** and the owner incompetent and bleat about it endlessly online.

It was always going to take more than a summer window to rebuild considering the size of the overhaul.

I don’t think Chris Hougton could. He had the play off winners Forest bottom of the league with 1 point after 10 games

Name 1 manager who hasn't failed in at least 1 job. Hughtons record was exemplary before forest done some good things in tricky posts. Wilder had Boro in the relegation zone until he got sacked after them being playoffs and a cup run last year. Why would he be any better?

Midfield is indeed the problem. I've been wracking my brain for what I would consider our best starting 11. I don't have a clue who I'd start in centre mid. Good job I'm not the new manager.

If Seri is lynch pin then I'd say you need legs alongside so maybe Slater and Doc in a 3. But then where do you play Tufan who's arguably been our most effective midfielder so far? I accept he can be incosnsitent, but he'd be the last one I'd drop from the current midfield.

Hughton is very good at putting together a defensively sound team which is hard to beat. While this is probably what we need I can’t see Acun settling for this if the style of football is so important to him.

Because Wilder plays a modern style and was very much let down by his players in front of goal. Boro are massively underperforming. They should be 3rd on xG which you can argue against it’s validity all you like but over the course of a season it’ll balance out.

Its about drawing relative comparisons between our squad and that Forest squad. Which I believe has a lot of similarities which is why I wouldn’t go near Houghton

It’s the same with WBA and Bruce. They’re up there on the xG. Makes our position even more nervy.

Weren't forest massively underperforming? isn't getting the most from them the squad a managers job whether it's forest or Boro?

There is no manager with any degree of experience that hasn't failed somewhere.

I'd bring Mcloughlin into the back 4, play Alfie Jones as a defensive midfielder alongside either Seri or Tufan and have Doc as the advanced midfielder

Thats a fair shout, I wouldn’t be too disappointed if that was the midfield. I don’t rate McLoughlin much mind, but deserves a go as the others haven’t been good enough.

Yeah and the way Boro have played thus far on the balance should have them a lot higher. Forest weren’t doing that at the start of last season. If Boro had Oscar up front they’d be in the top half

again it’s an absolute trope that you can’t start them together, in the last two games statistically speaking both of them out performed slater defensively so why the hell wouldnt you try it? **** chasing shadows why not keep the ball instead? Pep only plays Rhodri as a more defensive mind as they don’t lose the football.

Because 2 players can’t dominate the ball for the whole team. And without the ball they’re both liabilities however you choose to dress it up with statistics

its almost a completely baseless argument as they haven’t been played in a deeper role together. Intelligent players are out of position far less then less intelligent ones. This “running around” trope is a foolish call and isn’t adhered to by a lot of successful European managers. Us english are backwards with our football views sometimes.

On this same vein Slater/Jones are also massive liabilities so I’d at least play the ones who are good on the football…
