I know a lad who’s a millionaire with a hotel at least 5 houses in the lakes and a block of apartments on the river going through Ambleside, and his wife has MS and she gets a top of the range Peugeot estate on mobility which to be fair she is entitled to, but do you think it’s fair when he is stinking rich?
no worries, apologies from me as well, i guess i am a wee bit jumpy on that subject and i honestly know how you feel... used to rile me seeing the same people sat outside the pubs day after day in the summer or all sat in the gardens with the supermarket cans all day. had to go down the doctors one day and as i was coming out an old friend emerged from one of the doctors offices complete with walking stick the poor bugger could hardly move, outside he pointed out his brand new car and hobbled into it, couple of days later i see him come out of the club (no stick) and run at full pelt along the road to catch the bus. the problem is, these people are damn good liars and i have even known them push and push for operations to 'make them better' even when not needed, a couple i know have both recently had gastric band ops, both are carers for each other yet they are never in the house, all over the UK and europe...my problem is i am too honest but i am also an easy target for the 'scrounger hunters' so i have to make sure i do not fill any form in wrong.
my partner at one point was looking after me, her severely disabled brother and her father, she gets ONE carers allowance and half of that comes off any money we get. if she chose to put her brother into a home it would cost a minimum of 30k per year to keep him there, she is actually saving the govt. that 30k per year yet she can claim little to no help, he even put his own money to buy a car, believe me, i despise scroungers as much as the next man as it is always the genuine needy that lose out.
He has clearly gotten off his arse, made something of himself and paid fortunes into the system over the years via tax as he is probably in a very high bracket, so his contributions technically pay for the car, so no, I have no problem with that at all. Nor do I have any issue with people that need it getting it. But i do take issue with the likes I think you know I'm on about.
And also to Samwise , I refer to the system “ experts” who just take . If the tab ends which carpet the gutter and road outside a couple of houses further up our street where they have no intention of doing this work thing is anything to go by , they are doing quite nicely and can seemingly afford said tabs. But of course , first in queue for free school meals in holidays etc
Whatever the rise in the pension is, you and any future pensioners get it in full when you eventually reach state pension age, so here's hoping for a decent rise that at least keeps up with inflation
Apparently there's people out there that for a fee, fill in the paperwork for them get maximum payments.
I know mate I’ll start receiving pension , just a shame I’m not expecting to get the 10% that’s been dangled
If we get even 9.5% , I’ll stand you a beer ! Edit : it’ll probably take a weeks 9.5% to buy one by then !
For anyone who hasn't seen the masterplan for central Sunderland, this is a good link from the firm involved in the project: https://www.cundall.com/projects/riverside-sunderland
I have decided this past week that enough is enough and will now start looking for another career path. Started at the bottom of the ladder and worked my way up to team leader, supervisor, shift manager, operations manager and now Plant Manager. I worked for 4 different companies during this time and have learnt an awful lot from some really good people. I believe you learn everyday if you listen to people, I also believe that as a person in a position of authority you also have to listen to the people at the coal face, the people who matter, the people who turn in day after day and put the graft in for sometimes not too much money. A passing comment from my MD last week has played on my mind for almost a week and I just cant bring myself to work for him for very much longer. Here lies my problem, I am reasonably well paid almost 50 and have only ever worked in manufacturing. For the 1st time in my life I am at a loose end workwise, I have been looking the last couple of days and its not going to be easy. My wife has took the horrors and thinks I am overreacting but I fully intend to move on. Its been an eye opener because I have been very lucky jobwise, I have always managed to have another job sorted before leaving an employer. Anybody had a similar experience ?
