I expect some sort of performance. Not backs against the wall and hanging on. I don't think the manager is any improvement on McCann.
Saturday will be a real test against a team who were in the top flight only a few months ago. I hope I have to eat my words but I doubt it very much.
I’m waiting until the window closes and he’s had 6 or 7 games with a full-ish squad. However, I fear you may be right.
Is he making the players already here better? Its a bit much to expect a completely new team and squad. Other managers come in and improve some of the players they keep.
McCann’s coaching on players like Honeyman, Magennis goes extremely under the radar. When Honeyman joined he was a headless chicken and we all saw for a while the player McCann coached him into. Same with Magennis coached into his best goal scoring season at 30.
Or it could be that honeyman got past the off field issues he had and the struggles he admitted to having with leaving Sunderland and that magennis found his level..... Grant was better then most people gave him credit for but let's not go over the top
If Magennis found his level why did he only score three in 17 for Wigan in half a season at that level?
I wouldn’t say calling it underrated is going over the top to be fair. Magennis had over 250 appearances outside the championship before he played league 1 with us and had never scored close to the number of goals he scored for us that season…
He did well for one season in a team that scored goals for fun/was to good for the league they where playing in and won the league comfortably in the end. As I said, grant is a better manager then he gets credit for. But let's not go over the top.
This is a different team to last season. The results & performances show that, What about 1985, can we include that season or 2008? 3 games, 30 shots. 1 win, 1 draw, & a loss (with a much changed team, lacking match minutes & cohesion). We’ve come from behind to win (which destroys your original statement) & lost from a winning position but only by the odd goal (which suggests we didn’t “fold”). We’ve also drawn despite inly having 37% possession, again destroying your argument that we fold & have a “lot of the ball” What you said was bollocks. Adding more bollocks to pre-existing bollocks just adds to the oncoming mess
We haven’t done badly at all, all things considered. Nothing much to complain about defensively and we certainly haven’t folded as of yet. Biggest concern is the lack of chances created, which was the same last season. I don’t think new players getting up to speed will solve it either. I think we’re lacking a cohesive way of playing. Shota supposedly wants us to play attacking football but a lot of the time, it looks like possession for possession’s sake. Are we a counter-attacking team? High-pressing? Play down the wings or through the middle? Only recognisable thing about how we play is that we try to play out from the back and retain possession, but I couldn’t tell you what our plan/style going forward is.
