They had a fairly decent start to last season but only managed 8 or 9 wins from the end of October through the end of the season. They rave about O’hare like he belongs in the Prem - he’s managed 24 goal involvements as a No.10 in 90+ championship games and at the age of 24 has never played beyond the championship. In comparison, there was numerous AM/IF’s who managed close to that just last season - Semenyo who we had on loan being one of them. Gyokores looks a decent player but again, had one good season last year and that’s it - the season before he was at Swansea loan and didn’t manage a single goal so they sent him back then he was loaned to Coventry and managed 3 in 19. One of the lads was on Twitter saying Panzo is playing well below his level - he’s had one season in blokes football and got relegated with Dijon, and only played about 20 games Their fans are quick to claim we’ll be struggling at the bottom whilst they’ll be fighting for promotion but I just don’t see it. Think we definitely need a few more quality faces in but we’ll be alreet.
Unfortunately it's probably not right for me to copy and paste his work. It basically said that they're a decent Championship team and should be on the periphery of the play offs. I'd say it's a decent barometer for a first game and if we compete and put in a good showing against them then the signs are good for us this year.
They definitely try to play football the right way, Robins is a good manager I was a little gutted when he didn’t come here years ago. Like a bet and I seen them battering decent teams some weeks - but for a team who finished mid table identical to QPR’s W/L/D tally (who we put out of the cup, even though it’s only a cup game I know, and made about 8 changes to our first team whilst they put out the majority of their strongest Xl) and haven’t really overly-improved their squad I just don’t see where their confidence is coming from. Maybe I’ll see on Sunday Seen a spreadsheet pop up on Twitter of their fans predictions for a league they must do, was over 500 entrants on it and there was 1 who had predicted a Sunderland win in about 80 predictions - most being 2 or 3 goal wins, some 4-0s anarl. Edit; and albeit it was a cup game so didn’t mean much, we more than held our own against QPR who fielded the majority of their strongest team whilst we made 7/8 changes iirc.
I reckon Coventry get playoffs. Very tough first game for us, equally tough because they’re an “under the radar” tough team and so a bad result won’t be AS bad as some may make out
Moyes was little short of disgusting, If he was short at all. He was lazy, ( no work done in sussing out potential targets despite being nearly a year out of the game) and just accepting two hopeless players because he had no better ideas. He lazily brought in ancient players who he knew from way back. He was arrogant and indifferent, even abusing a woman reporter for daring to question his infallibility. Typical bully. He was archaic. Dispensing with much of the medical expertise brought on by BSA. He gave in immediately on a team which had gathered around 27 points in the second half of the previous season. He spent the rest of his season making excuses, distancing himself from the players and bigging himself up. No wonder the players hated him. A far superior manager did far better than him only months prior to his coming. There will never be a day I live when I do not loathe that man. No re-writing of his time here should ever be considered. He was shameful, and almost the equal of Mackemenemy as being the worst we have ever had. He deserves to look like a troglodyte.
I fancy Coventry as well, but they do have players that might leave. I think their manager is very good and Sunday will be a great test. It might also being a bit tough luck playing them now whilst they still have their better players, when one or two might end up leaving.
Because I’m a sad bas**rd I done some digging on those who the cov lads were claiming to have strengthened them enough to push promotion. Been reading some back and forth between the fans just there and to be fair there seems to be a lot more, realistic/humble whatever you want to call it, Coventry fans speaking up today. Anyway since it’s a transfer thread, see below - I know what our fans would be saying if these were our signings.. makes me actually appreciate the quality we’ve brought in so far and what we’ll have come the end of the window. Panzo - 90 minutes for Monaco once, 3-0 loss. 17 games for the Cercle Brugge, 12 losses. 3rd bottom but only 1 team gets relegated, survived by 2 points. 21 games at Dijon, 15 losses - relegated. Signed by Forest and sent straight out on loan. Doyle - no digging required. Not sure he’ll play ahead of Panzo. Tayo Adaramola - future prospect, however only played 20 games of u23s football, 2 goal involvements from LWB. Cirkin managed 2 in 14 games at a similar age so probably a fair comparison - Cirkin now has a full season of proper football under his belt which will be massive going into this season. Kasey Palmer - hasn’t managed more than 2 league goals since 2016. Not sure he’ll be a first team player. Again, they finished 12th in the league albeit as mentioned above had a decent xG (if you’re into all that) so could’ve finished higher but still were only 4 points ahead of Blackpool in the table. 10 points were between 7th and 16th with Coventry slap bang in the middle, meaning they weren’t a million miles away but there’s also 3 teams who failed in the play offs plus the 5 who finished above them.
Good digging mate. It's a football forum and your post is well researched and logical ... ... much better than some of the wild guesses passed off as fact.
They're is a spiral of failure. People need to be bribed to go there and play in a team going nowhere.
They need to bring in the money, that is for sure. Few worries about Burnley kicking about so this will be a help.
Heard on the radio the other day that xG only works between top and middle and bottom teams. They said that there no correlation between xG and real goals when comparable teams play each other. That makes sense as if you put a good ball into the box against a bad team you might score, but against a good team they might have a defender there. That might all sound a bit [insert what ever word for stupid here], but the point is we are going to learn an awful lot about how good we are going to be on Sunday.
Man City wont be impressed if Doyle plays less than 30 games this season I reckon. Never heard of Panzo, but I a reckon Doyle is a good un personally.
