Have they paid the players yet though? Bit behind the last I noticed. A terrible sign that mind.

They just always seem to come out smelling of roses. **** club imo, but i said last season when they signed Wyke etc, they've learned nothing from nearly going to the wall, splashed the cash so to speak, and it worked for them last season. Let's see how sweet the roses are this year even though they can't pay players.

Personally I’m yet to be THAT convinced, I think it states the obvious most of the time - the teams with the highest xG are normally at the top end of the table unless they have a massive deficit in their xGA. There is the occasional oddity, i’d say someone like Oxford probably always have a high xG in L1 because of how they control games and have loads of shots but they’ve been underwhelming every season we were down there. Coventry xG when they won L1 was awful, but it was really high last season. Sunderland probably have a really high xG and win loads of corners which bumps it up, but we all know that when we get a corner it means nout because we never score from them :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I think it goes out of the window when you actually watch the football rather than just stat peddle, and some teams also just tend to suit playing certain teams. Last season Coventry beat Fulham twice convincingly but lost twice to both QPR and Luton. Neither of those are better than Fulham (highest xG in champ) but the way they play is obviously an issue for Coventry. Leicester and Newcastle both had awful xG pts last season but scored a lot of counter/set piece goals and finished a lot higher than they would have it it was decided by the Expected Goals system.
Agree. Our xG was 'wrong' when when we had Maja, but quickly returned to mean once didn't have a forward better than the league. But we've also know for a hundred years that getting crosses in leads to goals. xG is just writing this all down statistically to make money. I wish I'd though of it! :emoticon-0100-smile

ps Sorry if I'm derailing the thread. I have no information, but predict that the Broadhead thing will get sorted. I also predict that we will get another midfielder to play next to Evans but Dan Neil will keep him out of the team. I think how Dan Neil works out this year will decide how well we do.

That's the fella <laugh>

Don't know a thing about this kid though, is he any good? What sort of midfielder is he?
Hes an attacking midfielder, unreal with the ball at his feet but is positionally really poor. Cant see it happening as his best role would be as a no10. Would prefer charlie savage, really good deep lying midfielder- would be great alongside evans when neil needs a rest

Sits in the middle as a playmaker. Really good at carrying the ball forward, quick and quite tall, loves threading through balls and pinging the ball around. United signed him from Monaco for about £6-7m when he was 16 iirc. Was playing for united U23’s at 17. Played for France youth teams then switched to Tunisia and already has 16 caps for them.

Maybe Khazri could have a word with him

Surely even the biggest Rotherham fan can see why.

It isn’t even arrogant to say that we’re a much, much bigger club.

exactly. I’m normally quite placid about other fans not thinking we are a good move. I wouldn’t even mind them thinking it’s a 50/50 thing. But then thinking it’s absolutely inexplicable, is just ridiculous.
