The reason Honeyman rejected the latest contract offer was probably the reason most players reject the first or second offer on the table; because they want to get the best deal possible for them and their families. A player who played through what looked like an excruciating shoulder injury doesn’t seem like the type of lad to sulk because there might be competition for his place in the team. If he leaves next summer I’ll have nothing but good words to say about George. Ideally he’d sign a longer contract and be made club captain for the foreseeable.
Also, I think a player like Honeyman with his attitude, his work-rate and just his presence in the dressing room would be harder to replace than KLP. We get anywhere north of £15 million for KLP when we already have Allahyar and we have options to gamble a few million quid on a winger from abroad. KLP would be a loss definitely but we could probably use the money to sign a winger the same age that is just as good if not better for a fraction of the cost. Tufan and Traoré may be better footballers than George but can they offer what he does for the team?
I like Acun and he’s a breath of fresh air compared to Allam but I am just a tiny bit concerned that he wants us to sign a load of Turkish players or players from the Turkish league, especially ones he has a close, personal friendship with. I would rather not Hull City become ‘jobs for the Turkish boys’. His and Kesler’s connections are good but there needs to be some continuity with the existing squad. Say what you want about McCann but he built a squad of decent lads willing to fight for each other and Honeyman is the best example of that.
Hopefully come pre season when he no doubt picks up where he left off results in Shota pushing for it. I think he holds a lot of influence on the football side of things over Acun. Very strong trust there
I think the constant links make it worse. The fact we were in for John Swift shows we aren’t just planning for a huge inflow of Turkish league imports. Acun is easy clicks for Turkish media which is why we are being linked with every one under the sun.
Yeah good shout. I'm sure a lot of the players see the links and roll their eyes but don't realise we're also looking at guys like Swift. Seri coming in would be a good one for instance.
He's a decent keeper, with potential to be a very good keeper. But one of England's best young keepers is pushing it.
Agreed, keepers tend to develop differently to outfield players. There's a great keeper set up at City and for those who haven't seen him, Cartwright is looking like a very promising young keeper. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't first choice in at a top flight club by the time he's reached Baxter's age.
One of England’s severely lacking areas. Ramsdale, what other keepers 23 and under have played nearly 200 senior games?
Playing that many games doesn't make him one of Englands best young keepers, look at him compared to ramsdale who's approx a year older for example. Also take a look at ettiene green who's a fantastic young keeper at 21 ( he has played for our u21s but also eligible to play for france. James Trafford is also very very good
Stood out though everywhere he’s been. I do get your point though. Trafford is one I’d love us to look at if Baxter wasn’t possible. Loved his chest control on his goal line last night when they tried to lob him.
Green is class and would be available, but will probably go to a PL team. Joe Bursik is another who looks the part and Carl Rushworth just had a decent season at Walsall.
