This only really applies to Wilks in this instance. We extended Henriksen to get a transfer fee that never eventuated. Everyone we've extended this time we seem happy to keep, apart from Wilks potentially.
In addition to that, wasn't part of the problem with Henriksen that we just activated it and told him we'd done so, after he'd said he wanted to leave? You'd hope these are all players who want to stay, and we're just buying time to sort out a proper deal.
Personally, I'd wouldn't have triggered the options on Elder or Wilks, but Shota obviously thinks they're worth keeping.
Henriksen's was triggered with absolutely no intention of playing him, it was purely to try and get a fee, after we cocked up by not accepting the £3m we were offered the previous season.
The Tigers will return to Cottingham on June 20 where they'll spend the first two weeks or so getting used to being back in training ahead of the late July start, before flying out to Marbella on Spain's Costa del Sol for a week-long training camp. City had been looking at the possibility of using either Turkey or Portugal as potential destinations, but have now opted for Marbella which is often used as a pre-season base for numerous European clubs.
Elder makes perfect sense to extend as a depth/challenge option for Fleming, who I think we'd surely see as our long term left back. Why recruit a new player to sit on the bench when we have a capable deputy in Elder?
There were a lot of mentions of his preferred formation being 4-2-3-1 when he joined, but don't know how accurate this was (seemed to be on website manager profiles like Transfermkt.com).
Why keep an unhappy player
Honeyman isn’t going to sign anew deal I don’t think if he’s a free agent in a year and can talk to clubs in January?

Only if Honeyman wants to move to France or somewhere else in Europe.
Who knows if he'll sign a new deal or not? Who's unhappy? He can only talk to clubs abroad in Jan and I don't think he's going abroad if he goes ( not that it really makes a difference whether he can legally talk or not, they know what's on offer from who before their deals run out )
Brilliant is a bit of a stretch, but he has done a decent job. As you allude to, pretty much the job he was brought in for and paid to do. He'll do another good job for someone, likely in L1.

Absolutely. Must say I personally also see Elder as more than just a capable deputy. If we revert to 4-3-3 and therefore need a left back rather than a wing back, I really haven't seen Elder do much wrong in that position, whereas Fleming hasn't had that much exposure there.
He mentioned it himself at one point, in an interview with Burnsy. He definitely said he prefers 4-3-3 but at the time didn't have a right back available so couldn't play it. Later on he did have options to play it with Coyle fit but he ended up sticking with the back 3. I get the feeling the team became well trained in the back 3 and it suited the defenders particularly well (not sure where McLoughlin fits into a back four for example) so maybe it'll be something they work on in the summer to recruit for and train in the 4-3-3.
