I don't really see the issue with Shota. He's come in to a limited squad forged in the image of his predecessor and has matched his record so far. Grant was probably getting every ounce from this squad and Shota has too.

Obviously Shota has come in because the management think he can take better players further than his predecessor but I'm seeing nothing that suggests he won't be able to do that.

Largely agree as far as players are concerned, though I'd trigger Eaves extension before Wilks.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if we keep neither as that's the area that needs most work.

Shota needs the summer to call for his head now is ridiculous but I do understand the frustration as we are pretty **** especially at home.
His preferred formation is 4-3-3 but he doesn’t have the players they are not good enough he needs the summer I am sure the owners will back him.
Judge him after 15 games next season

Saw the mention and discussion about David Meyler. This game summed up the pinnacle of his work rate at city. Always rated him in midfield. Often got pushed wide but was a real engine during this game.

Just marvellous seeing that
Let’s just remember we had posters week in week out slagging off those players and manager
Best team we ever had.

It’s a shame his career got cut short, he still lives local though always saw him at the Golf course in summer.

I'll see your goal and raise you this volleyed cross for the winning goal - DM was a class act for us ...

I think it’s part of being from a working class City that our fans value grafters over actual quality players.
It’s why I never rated Meyler or McKenna, they weren’t bad footballers, but they just didn’t have the ability to play at the level they were at because their counterparts in most other teams were much better. I preferred Quinn, who had much more guile and technique on the ball.
Meyler was exactly what we need right now, the nearest we've got to an Ashbee.

He'd walk straight into this team.

All of that team does, I was convinced after the pre season friendly against Mansfield Quinn still would he stood out that much technically:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Wasn't Skrtel a bit of an own goal specialist in his time?

The way I see it is we have a mid table defensive record. Add goals and a bit of midfield quality and that would represent progress next season. 5 or 6 added to what we have with the likes of Wilks, Moncur, Cannon, maybe even Elder and Doc who aren't assured a start leaving, would create adequate space without having to offload those who are currently contributing..

I think we’ll see a lot more than 5 or 6.

As someone said, our defence isn't the issue. Our goals conceded is remarkable for where we are on the table, and logically the more attacking intent we show in games there'll be even less pressure on our defence, so boosting our attacking third has to be the priority.

Williams, Cannon, Moncur, Eaves, Wilks could all go, with five to come in that are upgrades on our Starting XI, so that those starting - Smallwood, Docherty, Longman, Honeyman, Slater - become depth.

If we do recruit well in those areas it also helps the defence as they pin overlapping full backs back, Bowen and Grosicki were brilliant for that.

Reality is no Shota, no Acun and we still have The Allams! Know what my preference is!

4 priority signings.
The season isn't over yet, they're hardly likely to say we're bringing in 10 and having a major overhaul.

Whatever they do, they need to keep at least some squad continuity. There's no sense in getting rid of those in and around the first team - we need to be adding to not replacing those when we've got plenty who are not getting near the squad.

6 or 7 changes each window for the next 3 windows would be my way of doing it, rather than 1 big splurge.
