Guess it helps when you've been paid so much to sign for the club you can forgo wages for a portion of the season.. Second half of the season isn't the full season either.

Huge disparity in wages from a disruptive player with a poor attitude could be detrimental absolutely, and I can't see Ozil happening unless he's somehow involved in the ownership structure, but on purely a footballing note, we have plenty of 'ratters' in the squad, it's the quality aspect we often lack. Wilks never bust a gut for us last season but his goals got us the title, Turbo before him was on a cut more wages than most of his team mates and never really tracked back and grafted as part of a defensive shape, so frankly I'd say that a squad like ours probably could cope with a couple more luxury type players in forward areas to compliment the grafters that we already have.

It's all about balance. I wouldn't see bringing in this type of player as any different than signing a JJ, Geovanni, Koren or Grozsicki quite frankly.

It's one thing out-working an opposition but we have that in spades and are where we are because we can't unlock defences on a consistent basis. If someone gets the goals and assists then I think the team would value that contribution as much as running back 40 yds to make a tackle (or clumsy foul/2nd yellow) as the case may be currently.

I wouldnt say McKenna or Meyler weren't able to play the level. Both had experience of it at clubs before coming to city and it takes both grit and technique to create a balanced side.

Sometime you need an axe, sometimes you need a scalpel. Simple as.

I really rated Meyler for what he did for the team. I actually thought he always put a shift, did some of the unseen work.

Not quite the Leg End that Super Paul McShane will ever be, but not far behind.

His social media posts are an added bonus.

I guess one of the issues the management will be facing is, do they invoke the extra year on these players that are coming up to the end of the contract, and they have decided to keep on, which I assume will be at a pretty low-level salary-wise, or do they renegotiate terms for a longer contract and maybe better salary?

If players are going to be brought in, in the summer, and probably at better salaries than the current players, then maybe the latter option is better, if not then there could be some resentment in the ranks?

I assume this is one of the reasons they are holding off negotiating until they know which division we will be in.

Yeah he was, I just didn’t rate him as much as players like Koren and Quinn. I know that you need players like Meyler in the side, absolutely you need a player with guts and grit, but what we have now is a team made up of mostly that and very little quality or experience.

And most of the time having an axe and a scalpel is great because you can choose which one depending on the game

Defensively for a team 5th from bottom to have conceded 45 goals isn’t too bad.
So with that in mind keep KLP & Smallwood as he protects the defence so deserves a 1 year deal.

If we want to improve what we have then surely the lads not getting gametime need to be ushered out before the lads who are playing currently. Some who would keep Honeyman out of the out of contracts must think we'll be bringing in 25 + players if we can afford to let the likes of Ingram and Smallwood go. We need 2 players for each position why let the best of what we currently have leave to be replaced by better signings when we'd be better getting fringe players out to be replaced with better and retaining the core of this team to be added to?

I've heard some saying Ingram will go to Peterboro a d we need better to be pushing on. Really? I'd say the one position we are quite strong is in Ingram and Baxter pushing eachother for the shirt. Sign Baxter by all. Means but why would we let Ingram go? Same with Smallwood - yeah Slater might eventually replace him but for now it would be madness to release him when we lack experience as it is?

The way I see it is we have a mid table defensive record. Add goals and a bit of midfield quality and that would represent progress next season. 5 or 6 added to what we have with the likes of Wilks, Moncur, Cannon, maybe even Elder and Doc who aren't assured a start leaving, would create adequate space without having to offload those who are currently contributing..

Rebuilds take time as much as they won’t be good enough to take us the whole way in a season, ultimately we’d have to spend a **** tonne in order to close the gap anyway. And there’s the underlying issue of whether Shota is good enough either so we need to sign adaptable players if by the time we have had long enough to judge he’s underperforming, we’ll have to bring in someone with new ideas to which the players will have to adapt.

I don't really see the issue with Shota. He's come in to a limited squad forged in the image of his predecessor and has matched his record so far. Grant was probably getting every ounce from this squad and Shota has too.

Obviously Shota has come in because the management think he can take better players further than his predecessor but I'm seeing nothing that suggests he won't be able to do that.

Largely agree as far as players are concerned, though I'd trigger Eaves extension before Wilks.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if we keep neither as that's the area that needs most work.
