Definitely anyone suggesting otherwise doesn’t understand how long it’d take for these players to bed in meaning we probably wouldn’t see the best of them until half way through next season if we just got a new squad.
Plenty of teams succeeding at the minute with players similar quality to ours just need to add more in the final third which is where we are extremely lacking.

There's nobody succeeding with squad's of similar quality to ours. Player for player, P'boro's is better yet they are bottom.

I think it get way overemphasised how lacking our squad is at this level and they've played out of their skins to get us to 20th

Defensively we have similar quality. Midfield wise Honeyman Smallwood and Slater is well balanced can do the defensive side well. We just have the worst attack in the division by a country mile.

Worst attack but the midfield is pretty cack as well. I think Slater could be a solid player at this level. He’s a lot more gifted than Docherty in terms of passing, vision, ball-control etc. I’d like to see Honeyman in a more creative role as well because this false-winger thing on the right isn’t getting the best out of him.

Yeah it’s not great I personally think Honeyman needs to be in a box to box role as he’s really not that good a passer on the whole. He’s good at arriving late for goals and maintaining a high press.

We're better than them defensively in my opinion. But in terms of attacking/creativity we're miles behind. Grant, Poku, Szmodics, JCH, Marriott, Burrows would all be upgrades on what we have.

All this notion that we don't have to change too much is wrong. While the points deductions were valid, without them we'd be in the bottom 3. And next year we won't have them as our saviour. I've seen mention of 4/5 being enough but we brought 4 in in Jan and we've barely strengthened. Not every signing will work, they never do, so that needs to be factored in. We also need some proper depth, we've gone through this season with next to nothing on the bench and that has to stop. This isn't even about top 6, it's about just becoming a midtable side. I think a lot of fans underestimate how far off we are.

Clarke Harris and Marriot yeah but the others don’t touch our starting eleven.

The only players in their squad I’d look at is Clarke Harris and Joe ward.

Defensively we are currently mid table. We have a side that can't score goals. If we can get hold of some forwards that are capable of retaining the ball at the far end of the pitch that would not only improve our threat but also improve us further defensively as we'd have less actual defending to do.

We're 2 or 3 windows off being a side to challenge but we're not far off a decent mid-table side who should be looking up, not over our shoulders. A good chunk of the squad we have is only going to improve with experience.

It's the quality of player that we bring in as opposed to numbers that matters most to me.

Those with a 'clear the decks' mentality should perhaps note where Luton finished last year and where we ourselves finished only a year before that first PL promotion in 2008.

Given Acun’s relationship with the Fenerbache hierarchy this points him going to the US for me

From the event last night, it would appear that Acun and his gang are more in line with your thinking Shark (and me n Idi)

I think it’ll be somewhere in between. We have a fair few out of contract which won’t be renewed, those bodies will need to be replaced. Then in terms of upgrades, we’ve got a decent enough spine, so upgrading the attacking midfield and the forward line have to be the priority, which from the sounds of it it is.

The young lads will stay and will be all the better for a season at this level. I’m hoping we get a bit more experience in that final third, as we just look lost once we get to the opposition penalty area. Smallwood struggles shooting from range, but at least he has a go, some of them just cut inside, go sideways and then are forced back.

Having a threat from outside the box is always helpful as a team who struggles to break down low blocks. Forces a man to commit to block which opens up a gap that we’d hopefully exploit.

He’d also be able to play that precise pass when one of them commit too…

As much as his legs are gone he’d have been the difference in some of these 1-0’s where we created **** all
