I think he was managing with his hands tied behind his back by Methven and Donald, not supported either with coaches, scouts, the board or with money and in the end used as a scapegoat by them. That kind of thing can have a big impact on someone's career and might have him doubting himself.

Absolutely this. I don't know Jack Ross but do know mates of his - and agree with the above

I really like Jack Ross. I am adamant he will be a premier league manager one day

He came over really well on Netflix.

Let’s not forget that he said ‘do not sign Grigg’ as well.

He was appointed too soon, that’s his only failing really.

Not suggesting we bring him back, by the way.

Excited to see Defoe back in action for us. Can't think to many league 1 centre half's will be looking forward to playing against him.

I've always believed to be a real top striker that you have to have the brain and instinct as well as the physical attributes.

He might be getting on but will still have that top strikers instinct that will make up for his age in my opinion

I was there in 73 and the all of the rest, some latter ones with the lad, bar the PJ's The hardest for me was the first Charlton. I told him then I'm not going again but as he said, "You've won there Dad. I haven't". I find that hard to disagree with the Lad.

Gotta say, and I’m sure been said and all agree, the interviews and the beaming smile to be back, compared to when you see some folk holding a shirt looking sick and reeling off cliches, clear why we love the lad.

Interview felt so personal and like he was one of us, I was beaming smiling watching it.

Hints of the love for our club Quinny had. Didn’t feel like a club PR merchant had been anywhere near it.

The roar on Saturday will be deafening.

After a hammering last weekend and no manager! Pretty extraordinary really

not forgetting “you’re only here for the Doncaster” song which will undoubtedly be sung!

May have lost a little edge (or not) but opposing defenders will be very wary of him, which may give our other players a bit more space.

Does Defoe start or is he an impact sub?
And who is picking the team for the game on Saturday?

I don't believe he'll start and we'll kick off with the usual set up ...

... probably more effective, imagine the noise when he comes on as a sub.

I think he'll be used as an impact sub. Think you may have your work cut out this week with your team sheet. <laugh>

Yeah Smug....that's what I would do.

Normally when a team signs a superstar. Don’t start him because you don’t want all the attention on only him.

Instead, give him his entrance with about 30min left.
