Again agree. I always think centre backs or holders are the best options. Centre backs see the whole game in front of them and you need leadership most when defending because it’s about staying focused, staying organised, and pressing the ball aggressively. Someone needs to lead on that and tell/encourage others. Holders/battling midfielders are a good choice because they can lead by example. Their role dictates a certain attitude, one which it’s good if the rest follow and share in.
Both are areas we need reinforcements too so why not get leaders if we can.
Leaders is a load of bollocks these days... This isn't pub football. You need good players that's how to lead... Keeping the ball

Nah mate you need good players and a proper hierarchy within in any football set up. They don’t need to be any age though.
That’s why Man C went and got Dias. Proper leader of men. Took them up a level and Pep knew he was losing Fernandinho to age.
It’s why Klopp hung his hat on the likes of Milner, Henderson and Van Dijk to fill those captaincy roles. Leaders, vocal with A1 discipline and attitude.
It’s why Chelsea and Tuchel have opted for Cesar and Jorginho.
I agree though you need good players, you need to keep the ball. The captaincy roles are more to do with instilling a certain attitude. It’s just human nature, top players can still not be leaders. They still need guidance. The captaincy roles is really to help with that and of course be the link between coach and players. Still vital at all levels of football hence the top ones mentioned have strategically selected those players. Changing captaincy alone isn’t going to change the direction of the club, you need to buy better quality, you need to improve the coaching and infrastructure. Countless things here due to the lack of care and investment previously. It’s a massive job but I still think captaincy roles are a cog in the operation you need to have functioning correctly. Lascelles means he gets picked even when he shouldn’t, and Shelvey is not a leader or someone who displays traits I’d want other players following. Even his body language is wrong. I think someone like Fernandez within the current set up is best captain type material. His attitude is so good, he is fully committed and seems a really really good man. He is very professional. In an ideal world we bring in really really good players, a couple of whom also have leadership qualities. I think Jan might be tricky for us though so we can’t get too precious - quality needed first and foremost to raise the bar.

Pogba is a good example. I found it interesting in the lead up to the 2018 World Cup that Deschamps went to great lengths to make it clear that Pogba would not captain the side in Lloris absence. He talked about the hierarchy structure being in place for a reason and he saw no reason to change it. He ****ing knew Pogba was a top player when he is on, but was he **** having him as the example to follow attitude wise

It not about shouting. Yes that player should be one of the best players too because the others have to respect them. If you are not even one of the best in your position like Lascelles, then I can’t imagine you would listen if that player is trying to organise you. You’d be like **** off and it’s why Lascelles has names like captain fist bumps attached to him by fans.
However you still get a variety of different characters displaying various traits within in any set up. It’s telling that top managers get top players down the spine of the team who generally have a certain type of professionalism in the way they go about their business. Pep could have went and got any top end centre back. He went and got the best who was also a leader of men already fulfilling the role throughout his career.
We will just have to agree to disagree, I think captaincy roles do perform a certain function within a football club. I think the likes of Pep, Tuchel, Klopp and all top managers exploit the potential it has. It’s calculated and adds value.

They do. They also have some of those players who lead more than others. They don’t select their captains for a laugh. They know it’s important with a structure. If the top managers thought you were right, they’d do away with the captaincy roles. Clearly those top teams see value in the roles and also disagree with you. Arsenal are a good example of a team who have struggled with leadership despite having world class squads over many seasons. Spurs too. They lacked two things - leadership and also players who do the ugly stuff.
And I’ll say it again I agree, but you also need good captains.
