Match Day Thread Watford vs Southampton, 3pm Saturday 30th October

A colleague has just informed me that the referee was usually interviewed?! They should bring that back.

But was that just for one game ?

Maybe might help understand why decisions are made - like if we heard the VAR communication.

Apparently it was mooted but clubs thought if an official commented on a player after a match saying they dived for example it would influence other refs to go against them .

The best bit about winning games is to go looking at who we beat forums and seeing just how annoyed they are that they lost to us. Watford fans weren’t happy saying that if they got outplayed by us that badly it doesn’t bode well as we are most likely going down.

Was similar when we beat Leeds, although they said we are definitely a bottom 3 team. Always amusing

The Man United forum was very amusing when we drew with them.

He doesn't have to say things like that though. If he didn't give a pen then he can say that there was no contact or contact with the ball first and if he gives a yellow to the attacker then it's clearly for simulation so its obvious already

Must say I agree with Libby, not much to be learnt from refs saying why they did something, just a further excuse for disagreement and they are working in real time
But VAR get all that time and tech support. They should say why something was reviewed, not reviewed, overturned etc as the evidence is there on the screen for us all to see

They don't need to come out after the game and say why they made decisions. All that needs to happen is for the fans to hear the referee and VAR during reviews.

Much like rugby or cricket.

Yes fair point they don't have to use the word "dive" but you know what our press are like

They will twist the words to make it look like they did.

Seen the highlights again
KWP & Redders crossing with their left feet :emoticon-0148-yes:
Armstrong was a bit unlucky really, all his shots were going just off where he was aiming for and a foot or two over and he'd have scored
I think there's goals there :1980_boogie_down:

We need to stop leaving defenders isolated for counter attacks, KWP & Tino are up the wings, Sally's roaming forward, SOMEONE needs to stay back

Haha, in the first half we were sending Salisu up just to take f*cking throw-ins. <laugh>

It was a time wasting tactic, something we did regularly and well yesterday

Hope you're joking.

Wasting time and slowing up the game when we were dominating them so much would be pretty bloody daft. I think it was more that Ralph sees long throws as another possible attacking option. Didn't really work though.

We were wasting time pretty much whenever we had the chance to after we took the lead, I just assumed the Salisu throw in thing was the same. He was ****ing useless at them so I can’t think of any other reason

With Broja in the side it could be effective if he can flick them out at the near post.

Even better when you consider how hard we fecking rammed them.

Sidenote: The Leeds fans were the most obnoxious I’ve seen outside St Mary’s in a while, constantly digging for someone to have a pop on the way in and out of the ground so that makes it even better. (Could just be me that thought this tbf).

Nope, on the way out I witnessed some Leeds fans spoiling for a fight.

I didn't think you were trying to time waste anything like Newcastle did when we played them.

We didn't help ourselves by giving away silly fouls allowing your players to take time setting up a free kick or taking it as naturally anyone would.
