He's on just over 5 grand a week at Monaco. I'm sure we could match that.

Or maybe he is at the stage of his career where he is willing to drop in wages a little bit to get a few more years 1st team football instead of seeing his career out on a bench or not making a 1st team squad?

I try to tell myself some players care about playing and will forsake a bit of money for that. But probably kidding myself.

I still can't believe how much of a professional Defoe is. Absolutely dedicates himself to the game and does every little thing to get that bit more out of himself and last that bit longer in the game.

Also a all round good guy, which again I don't think we expected.

I'm not normally as sentimental as most and "no going back" but as with Defoe mentioned on another thread, I'd love to see these two back.
Defoe I doubt, but both passionate professionals and imo both would be an asset to the club on an off the pitch this season at least.
Although I think we'll still go up without either.

How the **** is he on that little????

That's amazing news. That and a nominal free shouldn't be too hard to manage I would think.
AS Monaco 2021 Wages | Player & Team totals

He's in the last year of his contract and not making the matchday squad. I would have thought he'll cost us about 100k at the most, tbh.

Monaco might even be happy with us taking him on loan and taking over his wages until his contract runs out next summer.

Here is a question would he get a work visa?
He was England for over 10 years surely he is eligible for residency or even a passport

I'm sure at his age he'd probably think this is his last contract of note. Forget matching his wages his outgoings living in Sunlun will be a third of those in tax haven Monaco (where the cost of living is enormous) so will definitely better off financially here

Do it Don

Has anybody considered why he’s only on £5,000 a week, think about it!

They signed him from MLS which has a wage cap. He’s already a millionaire. He wanted to be back in Europe.

Many, many reasons.

It’s not like he’s ever been a really massive name, top class keeper. He’s just very good for our level.

I think I would rather keep my good memories mate.
