Channel Four is one of the few media outlets who have been asking the Conservatives some very awkward questions about their finances and indeed the fairness and transparency with which they have fought elections. The sad thing about JRM was that his seat was , at one time, considered to have been vulnerable yet he managed to get re-elected in 2019. I was disappointed that he was re-elected although he is one of the few people I would genuinely wish further misfortune on.
I am not sure that the electorate is turning towards the Left as a whole although I believe that there is a demand for Socialism within the Labour Party and that this resonated with voters more than the current incumbent as Leader of the Opposition would admit to.. The election report at Batley was not a success for Labour and they hemorrhaged voters in this campaign. It is the measure of how poor Starmer has performed that the likes of JRM have not been subject to greater scrutiny and I believe that John McDonnell would have been given a remit by Jeremy Corbyn to address some of these serious concerns had he won the previous general election. The British media has largely failed to hold these kind of right wing politicians to account. The likes of JRM may have done everything by the book legally yet the morality and cynicism with which he has profited from Brexit remains unchallenged. There are similar issues with the likes of James Dyson as noted by the journalist who have campaigned for Brexit but similarly decided to invest elsewhere overseas. I believe that Branson was another likely to have been targeted by a Corbyn administration. Farage has been even more shameless.
I think that the problem is probably indicative of politicians having too cosy a relationship with business and I see that the new shadow chancellor has now promised closer cooperation with business as Starmer attempts to steer the party to the Right. This is giving out the wrong messages. (Contrast with McDonnell's withering assessment of Capitalism and his comment that it cannot be properly understood until you have read Marx albeit he neglected to mention that there are not too many working class people who would want to sit down with this tome! ) For me, having "pro-Business" Labour politicians is as hypercritical as the "Labour MPs for Israel." It is totally contrary to the reasons why the Labour Party was necessary in the first place. Politicians should be looking at the interests of the people they serve and I feel it is categorically incorrect to suggest that their interests are one and the same as clearly not everyone benefits from business ! (No one ever argues that it is the ordinary folk who carry the can when business goes wrong! ) The only people who benefit from business are the "capitalists" even if they may be working class themselves. Profit is seen as the award for taking risks in business but , as outlined with JRM, his "rewards" stem from the folly of the people he managed to convince Brexit was a good idea. He is a parody of capitalism.
I do not believe that politicians of any political colour can be involved in any form or level of governance where there is the potential of financial award as a consequence of decision making. There will always be the perception of a conflict of interest and I would like to see Parliament composed of people who are not in this kind of position where the voters may think there could be a lack of integrity. People like JRM and Farage should really have no place in politics and I would much sooner see the House of Commons made up of people who genuinely serve their community. Ideally, I would like to see some kind of bar put up to qualification where future MPs must demonstrate that they have served the community or society for a period of time before being eligible for selection rather like what happened in Ancient Rome where there was a genuine "career path" to the Senate. (Boris would have made an excellent emperor.) People like JRM who are actively involved in business / finance whilst holding office should be prohibited from holding two positions at the same time and I would even go as far as suggesting a 5 year hiatus between leaving business and taking up public office be implemented so that any suspicions over integrity could be allayed.
JRM makes my blood boil yet he has never been knocked off his perch.

Already happening, fishermen, hauliers, farmers with produce rotting in the fields and of course the difficulties the NHS and other services have with recruiting now we've lost a skilled pool of labour from our closest neighbours. FOUK the call from many of our chums in the Netherlands (apart from cheering on our footsters).

I doubt that tbh. It takes humility and courage to admit you were wrong. Easier to just blame someone else (foreigners usually).
