I'm ok with the entirety of his article. He is suggesting we are better off investing in the long term rather than breaking the bank on a 45 year old.

Love Defoe and wish him all the best but I'm inclined to agree.

It's not that I disagree, I'm just tiring of seeing him commenting on every aspect of the club.

He says you should never go back despite applying for the manager's job and saying last week that he'd come back.

... if he keeps up this routine.

He's obviously willing to become 'rent a quote' in the same way Mick Quinn is for Newcastle ...

... I just wish he'd get a proper job.

"When asked if Sunderland should consider re-signing Defoe if they gain promotion to the Championship, Phillips said“Would Lee Johnson want him around?"

“I am not so sure. Defoe has been a magnificent player but I do not know if a return to the Stadium of Light would be right.

“Sunderland have been down that route before with players and manager and it has not worked."

Really Kevin, weren't you just saying, last week, that you'd like to come back. If that's the case you might want to be careful what you're saying about the club ...

... perhaps you're just worried Defoe will take your 'S'.

Don’t know what your problem is with super Kev.

But it looks like your trying to create an issue out of nothing, for no particular reason.

The Football Insider guys must have him on a retainer.
He comments on every story they have about us

Which would be totally fair if he was involved in football, knew anything about the new owners, lived in the area or ever bothered going to our games.

I wouldn't have a problem with that tbh, but he probably has less insight than RAWA or @RTB.

He left Sunderland 20 years ago and you can tell.

I would crawl to Rangers and let him ride me back if he wanted to come.
I'd help!! He didn't leave under a cloud or with any animosity. I agree investing in the youth is very important - but having Defoe around to show the youth how to do things would be as good as you could get.

Imagine having Defoe on the bench with 20 minutes to go when you need a goal!

To be fair if he came to us he wouldn’t be on the bench none of our players could lace his boots for another 3 years at least.

Marco became an ex-hero, to many people, which is sad.

I was gutted when Marco left for Palace but now when you hear him on the radio and he's asked for his perspective on the game and his reply is "I didn't see it but watched the highlights", my thought is should you really be commentating on it then. Yes he's an ex-player but I can't understand why Bennett doesn't appear more often like John Anderson does for the mags. I stayed at his hotel once (more in the hope of meeting an ex-hero than anything else - yes sad I know!) and he has more photos up of Derby than he does of Sunderland! The person I would prefer to comment on all things Sunderland is Kieron Brady, he's very articulate and his arguments are seriously thought out rather than just word play and saying things for affect.

Must admit don’t read everything, what did Marco do ?

Basically doing match reports without seeing the games and telling everyone where they're going wrong.

In truth there's little obvious affection for the club.

I don't mind that tbh, players are just staff after all ...

... it's the poor attempt at pretence that irritates.

He’s just giving his paid opinions on his ex club, what’s the harm?

He’s not said anything insulting or out of hand.

I didn't say he'd said anything insulting.

What's annoying is that this current regime may be the best thing to happen in a 100 years but he doesn't seem to have a good word to say about the club. That's far enough, and he's entitled, but I don't have to automatically agree because he was a great player for us.

Exactly mate.

If you play for Sunderland you can expect justified criticism ...

... be paid to comment and it's just the same.

I'm not asking for a firing squad, just saying I'm disappointed with his comments.

Yeah they could be, but so far they’ve done nothing.

In my personal opinion I think KLD will be great, but I thought that about the last lot. So perhaps it’s best to wait and see, whilst supporting the process.

Super Kev isn’t helping or hindering anything with his comments, just not heaping praise yet , and he can’t be criticised for that.
