I dont agree with that personally mate. Flanagan is a lower level league 1 player in my opinion. Trying to get promoted with him in the team then we might aswell just give up. Hes bad in when he plays his natural position as a Left sided CB, moving him out of position would be a disaster
It's all about opinions Tees but I reckon Flanagan for all his faults, is a better defender than McFadzean and Vokins and Hume is more of a wingback, so to me it depends whether Johnson plays a back four or a back three.

I agree he's better defensively. He'd get totally skinned for pace though playing at fullback.

Lets be honest mate, how many wing backs can defend nowadays, at any level.

There role is more containment and pressing them back a lot of the time. If the lads good on the ball, and has decent delivery, then for us, as a time gunning to win games, toss him in for me.

Yes i agree. Alexander Arnold is a perfect example

The ultimate. Real world poor as a defender, but a superb footballer.

There’s a lad at Benfica as well called Grimaldo, he’s utterly ridiculous with the ball, delivery and linking play, absolutely atrocious defender.

Its a changing game.

If only we could play a back 4 of Flanagan, Willis, wright and Sanderson. Both Flanagan and Sanderson can play as full backs.

Elmo is playing for a Villa side who are aiming for Europe ...

... the same player most supporters here couldn't wait to get rid of.

PVA is another.

Good interview by Johnson imo. In real time I was thinking the subs are coming on too late but understand what he’s saying about still learning about the players. Interested to see what he goes with against Swindon
Like listening to him and like how he is trying to play the game
For me he needs to learn again from today. Although a lot of players didn't turn up I Think he was a bit naive in how he set us up
We were light in midfield against a team who overload the midfield and move the ball quickly
Against Doncaster he went back to a 3 in the middle and we were outstanding.

If he's got a fault its thinking the players are better than they are.
Sometimes you just need to cut your cloth a bit.
Really think he's on the right track just maybe trying to push things a bit quickly with some players who aren't quite up to it

I’ve been his biggest critic this season, but Lee Burge has looked like a proper keeper these last few games. Commanded his box very well today. His decision making is suspect at times, but he’s looked solid. Feel a lot more confident with him between the sticks now.

The next generation of managers will counter all this sort of stuff. We will end up going full circle with 6 up front, outside lefts, inside rights and all sorts. Wait till Foden is City manager and Rashford is Man Utd manager. :emoticon-0105-wink::emoticon-0104-surpr<cheers>

Someone on the radio has just said those changes should have been made at halt time, i would say three should have been made max and we would have won that game the players were available to do this so dont praise LJ for this point, he lost us 2 imo. Yes they were a good side but we made them look better than they are and their confidence grew minute by minute in that disaster of a first half.
Tends to be fairly standard give the team first ten or fifteen minutes see how things go if no change then give the subs the opportunity = still time to get back in to the game . We did pull it out of the fire same as other clubs , Crewe are one of the best home sides in the league so a draw is a welcome result particularly given our first half performance .
