In a way I like that he didn't over promise. I was sort of hoping he'd say his ultimate aim was a major trophy or something but I think he probably took the right tact. Understated, sensible, but obviously passionate and delighted to have a club to call his own. And when you get people like him passionate it can be a very good thing for those who come along for the ride

Was very sensible I thought. We're going to put an infrastructure in place, plan for where we want to be and make the club self sufficient by using the academy. Hell know exactly where he wants the club to end up but rightly keeps that to himself so it can't be used to bite him on the arse with. Personally I think he'll want to be challenging the top end of the premier and I think he would love to take Sunderland to play Marseille in a European cup tie!

Gets tougher as you go up the league's, remembering most teams in top two divisions are probably already implementing what we are trying to put in place.

It's been a long time coming.

We have had a long, dark miserable winter. Effectively taken hostage by people who are not fit to be in the game at all, never mind at this level. The gloom appeared never ending.

But tonight I've said to my lads, and meant it, that they are lucky to be young when this man came to us. I used to say to them all the time when they were younguns, after more misery, " One Day" lads " One Day".

I'm usually wrong, but I'd be betting that I'm right here. This feels and sounds different. It's not that " One Day" anymore, it's This Day.

Exactly . What do we see as success? For me, getting back to the PL. For him though? I doubt he's come here to just do what others have done. Not saying he'll manage it, but I doubt he'd be happy treading water in the top flight. He'll get the bug, especially when the fans are back, and regardless he'll want to show how high he can get a club. This should be immense

Said the exact same to my boy tonight. He's 6, nearly 7 (we've never lost a derby in his lifetime BTW, proud of that) . All his life I've tried to get him into football but basically had to say "we're a class club, but you've been born at the wrong time, we're not normally this ****". Tonight he was watching with me and when the second went in I said "actually , maybe you've been born at exactly the right time, we're on our way". Fingers crossed it turns out like that. It could turn to **** but like my lass when she randomly has wine and drops her standards I'm just going to enjoy the ride while it lasts

Aye but by the time we're in a (premier) league position that reflects the size of the crowd and club income we'll be in some pretty sexy company. Not every club has our gates or potential.

Added to which aren't we the seventh richest club in England now?
