I was in Beverley yesterday, normally a great place to be at Christmas, but it was all a bit gloomy. There's normally people wandering pub to pub, buying last minute presents for far more than they meant to spend as they've had a few too many and plenty of old mates to bump into. This time it was just cold and wet, with all eating and drinking places obviously shut and very few people in the shops that were open.

I went to Hull on Saturday and went to park on the top floor at St Stephens and I was the only car there, the last Saturday before Christmas and the place was empty. It got busier by the time we left in the afternoon, but it still wasn't anything like Christmas. Grim times for hospitality and retail.
I was down Humber at dinner time and Taphouse a d Thieving Harry's where serving beer .
People just stood outside drinking .
A few groups of lads .
Was a bit cold though

What's peoples choice of beverage for Christmas?

White Christmas or something special for the occasion?

Edit: White Christmas might be a Swenglish expression

*Without alcohol or something special for the occasion?

What’s with everybody jumping on this advent calendar bandwagon? It’s come from a kids chocolate thing now to booze, cheese, candles, bath bombs, etc.

I desperately want to convey seasonal greetings to everyone and without offending any human under Section 18c of the Racial Discrimination Act.
So ... Please accept, without obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday, practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated, recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2021; but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that our country is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wisher.
NOTE: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no
promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her / him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at
the sole discretion of the wisher.

Well I’m sat having a glass of 15 year tawny port right now (well I think it says 15 years old on the bottle, might be 10 but I can’t reach it to check & I’ve had it ages so it’ll be middle aged by now anyway)
Christmas Day menu
Pink Moët for breakfast (with croissants)
Scotch in the morning (Glenlivet Founders Reserve hopefully as long as no one finds the good stuff!)
Normal Moët with Christmas dinner
Probably Peroni later on as a palate cleanser

At some point I will be making Salted Caramel Espresso Martinis for the ladies

I'm guessing, but my suspicion is most of the posters on this 'effing site have strong links with 'Ull. Why do I say that? Well, it's the obvious sardonic sense of humour that pervades almost every thread, a trait I remember from being there almost 55 years ago now.

Nowt's changed. Merry Christmas all of you sad bastards who never got out of the place.

Seriously - stay safe & all the best to y'all for 2021.<cracker><cheers>

I’m freezing my knackers off stood waiting outside of Chinese!! Couldn’t get through in the phone
Must be twenty people here waiting
Been waiting 45 minutes now

Chocolate?

****ing chocolate?

All I ever got was a picture of a bell.

Or a holly leaf.

Or a star.

There was always a star.
Haha
Took the words out of my mouth
Chocolate?...luxury!...mines/cardboard boxes/holes in the road/stars behind card windows etc.

We bought the grown up kids advents this year that may as well have had new cars behind every window for all the similarity they have to the ones I had growing up

Kids today...

Obviously Hull is a special place at Christmas time, as the bible clearly states that the Wise men came from the East Riding on a camel.
When you live in West Penrith, Cornwall everyone comes from the East. Happy Christmas to you all. I hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow. Drinking champagne and Peronis now so not many conscious hours left. Stay safe wherever you are and have the best festive season you can.
