Year ending May 2019 we showed group profits of 12.7 million and a profit on players disposals of £38.2 million which included sales of Reid, Bryan, Flint and Kelly.
We brought in the likes of Webster again one of our best players that we shipped out for millions.
It's possible with the figures shown that we didn't have to sell OUR best players but reduced squad size down to be within ffp. That is down to Ashton and the board NOT LJ. It's a nonsense and counter productive to sell off your best assets if we were looking to progress, with the prize money worth over 100 million per year in the Premiership. Sounds like the board bottled it and we are where we are because of it......I honestly believe that no manager at this club has any chance of progressing the team further without continuity and being able to retain it's best players. It's seems that it's the case that we throw them on the pitch and see what happens.
It's why I'm scratching my head....If the boards aim is to continue along that path,,,,,what was the point in dismissing LJ and bring in Deano to do exactly the same thing...............makes no sense.
NB. We took a £15 million loss year ending May 2016 which can have a knock on affect for future years!!

I think your point is only looking at what you see, and not the bigger picture.
Plan was [ no particular order in my listing ] Stadium [ to assist in self sustainability ]
Stop buying end of road players and concentrate on "rearing own" bringing in potential and developing it ...
increase quality of squad
upgrade training and facility to do so
bring stability to club from head coach downward
most importantly using the above to eliminate debt ….. ffp
up to covid this was working, partly, but hindsight could be applied that the selling of key players was detrimental … they maybe should have sold BROWNHIL to Burnley but loaned him back! till season end!

LJ was a coach...head coach... not his job to set wages it was very clear that MA SL JL set the wages they said so, by having a annual wage ceiling... and they negotiated all the contracts paid the fee's and collected the fee's
LEE at one time mentioned it was unfortunate that certain players had to be sold …. like "well we will have to work / carry on with what we have" …
he was head coach at a time SL JL MA stated the way forward was to get in the black ….
Oh so blaming our lack of TV coverage just because it’s not shown in Canada. Regardless that Sky have been showing us live in the UK. Yeah that’s a lot of waffle. You will quibble about which players had to be sold but after a stonking loss of 24 million putting City offside with ffp players had to go. Books balanced and in ljs words that meant he could go again and he did bringing in more players like Palmer. Selling players happens everywhere a Brentford does it and finishes in front of City and sheff Utd went up with a wage bill like Lj,s after his judge me on three transfer windows.
The 24 mill loss that you say is down to the board not the manager. Any players that made an impact for LJ were sold off. year on year. The players brought in did not match the ones that left, LJ is not a scout, he managed the players that came in......and as we still see, they are not good enough.
DH will have exactly the same problem if the right players are not brought in.......
If you look at the accounts again you will see a companies house return for allotments of shares. The amount is for seventy million plus. Part of this is Mr Lansdown redeveloping Ashton Gate, it is also to service the debts created by the cost the squad. Mr Lansdown did not only have to sell players he also had to inject cash to comply with financial fair play regulations. These cash injections have been occurring as the club goes frequently to the upper threshold spread over three seasons. In one season City used 60% of that threshold = players had to be sold.
Saying Mr Lansdown bottled it when you look at the enormous sums being poured into BCFC like Monopoly money is beyond mean spirited.

POINT 1 .. LJ made statement and should have had a say on who came in .. dubious it was 100%
POINT2 … Players brought in did a good job … check table to halfway point … yes a very good job.
POINT3 …What happened in second half of the season
POINT4 … Started again and got a repeat …….
JUDGEMENT … GUILT lies mainly with the board, undermining the coach by taking away [ selling] most influential players. these players sold to endeavour to balance books from the past losses. A REGULAR team playing for more than 1 season with main players not possible. Critical errors in selling at wrong time or ensuring contracts are not going to influence emergency sales ….
Only Brownhill was sold in a January window, none of the other best/better players were sold halfway through the season, all sold in the closed season or a couple of weeks into the new season.
Yes, best part of 50 + mil injected into the stadium (also used for Bristol rugby) which is an asset worthy of millions more if he ever looked to sell the club in the future.
You need Monopoly money to run a football club, especially if you're looking to hit the big time, the premiership, which would be worth millions more. We could have complied with ffp by reducing fringe players off the wages bill, those that were not on long contracts (set up before LJ was appointed) Progress costs....Enormous to us but not to SL IMO. It's his little hobby, if you want expensive toys to play with then you need to be prepared to pay for them!!

I may have wanted to see the FC ran in a different manner but I will wholly accept that Mr Lansdown has put enough resource into BCFC to hit the big time. Yes Mr Johnson could have reduced the wage bill by reducing the amount of fringe players he signed himself, saving wages and transfer fees thus avoiding selling assets. Posters pointed this out. Millions were wasted. You have gone full cycle and are agreeing with numerous brothers in arms. Welcome to the err Bros..

The profit you refer to was swallowed by the previous seasons debt, and that seasons wage bill. Yes I have referred to this profit previously, and justified the sales in posts at the time due to the clubs finances. I made a parallel to Southampton a club that makes tens of millions to balance books and progress it’s XI.
Critical thinking leads to did the FC have to seek players to comply with financial fair play and what the alternatives were. As the club were injecting equity that alternative had been used and the upper financial fair play threshold would be broken = The club had to sell players. You will call that waffle and hate but the alternative of cutting the squad and it’s wage bill had not been exercised by Mr Johnson. Mr Johnson and the club had decided to expand the squad and wages to the point of assets having to be sold. The manager is responsible for this, he should be managing his squad size, understanding budgets and planning for inevitable.
Previous losses with differing managers were smaller as a % v income. They had to be as the FC was being run differently.
That's your interpretation of proceedings. Mr Johnson was fully at fault.....I will leave that to the Cliftonville, Red Alert & Redprintt "Brother in Arms waffle bible.
The sensible posters will understand that when LJ came to the club, it had been making year on year big losses dealing with not sustaining championship status over a number of years with the lack of revenue from TV, gates & merchandise sales.
Cotts's reign required better players and higher wages to achieve promotion, one of, if not the highest in League one at the time. Contracts that were ongoing and needed to be seen out . . Relegation dooming again would have been devastating , hence the appointment of LJ to turn the season around. That season alone showed the loss of 15 mill.
What LJ did was to maintain Championship status for the following 4 seasons (the longest in 40 years) showing a profit on players disposals of £38.2 million..year ending May 2019. Had the board sold off the fringe players from previous seasons, we wouldn't have had to sell our best players and had more chance to progress.

how differently does BCFC finances differ from 99.9% of all other finance systems... like I had my own business did my own accounts and it was simple really simple I made a loss one year and the next I made a profit so that took care of my losses … i made a profit and that took care of my next years losses ….. its called accounts AND HMRC treat all accounts similarly ... you account forward or backward, that's why accounts for 2018/ 2019 I am declaring this year!.... FFP is run similarly a max run of losses …. simples …..
