I must admit to bed wetting as some have put it. I just can’t help but think now was the time to get a manager that would get the fans together. There can be no doubt this has split the fan base right down the middle which gets off to a very bad start. I like the structure but just can’t work out why they didn’t go for a all in one announcement including Dreyfus to show a whole new Sunderland.
It feels more like same old Sunderland same old Donald.

Weve had big name managers before like ONeill and Coleman for example and where did that get us??
We need to realise we're a league 1 club, so getting a manager in who was the Championships longest serving manager before coming to us should be regarded as a good bit of buisness.
We're not exactly a good proposition for any manager are we. Anyone that comes to us will be putting their reputation on the line when you look at our track record.

Good interview that from Speakman. And an article from Mark Donnelly talks about appointing head of recruitment and making Sunderland a hub of excellence. Really feels like the new owners have thought about this in great detail and have a plan. Also suggests they’ve sold it well enough so that the likes of Speakman and Johnson come on board. Very exciting. No takeover though...

SAFC announcement says he will be sporting director and in charge of player identification, development and acquisitions

That to me is disappointing then. There's no doubting his qualifications in the player development side, but there are many from Brum questioning his transfer dealings. Their first team haven't pulled many trees up. Had hoped for a separate DOF.

Surely this takeover is getting announced this weekend. Are we waiting for the manager to get in the door before it happens do we think?
Let's hope so. As others have said, if it'd come the other way round, the takeover then director/head coach, there wouldn't be as much discontent amongst some.

Johnson is unemployed, hardly a tough ask to say hey do you fancy 2/3/4/5/600k a year and get a pay off when you do your usual trick of missing out on play offs <laugh>
