£18m with £7m in add ons for a player that cost £50k is good going, but it's the old hindsight thing that kicks in. Would it have been nice to get a little bit more for him? Yeah, probably, he had proven that he was above Championship level for three consecutive seasons and I don't think £20m up front would have been unfair on West Ham.
Circa £22m plus generous add ons for a January transfer and his proven track record of goals and assists would have been more like it. Bowen proved in consecutive seasons goals and assists. Watkins had one decent season.
I agree about the performances, there doesn't seem to be much consistency in what we ask for when compared to other clubs. You look at, say, Che Adams, who also played 3 seasons but didn't score anywhere near as many goals (and has the middle name Fred) and he went for £15m, just £3m less than Bowen. Would you have said, on value alone, that Bowen was worth just £3m more than Che Adams? Would you hell. I'd be interested to see what Benrahma at Brentford goes for, he's apparently interesting Chelsea, West Ham, Palace and Villa.
And you just keep proving time after time your just a Sunday league level wannabe with little actual knowledge of football....but carry on! It's entertainment
We know Andy Robertson was sold well short of his true valuation. That’s the problem when you have Assam and Ehab conducting football transactions when they know about as much as Howdentiger2. Which for clarity and the avoidance of any doubt is precisely the square root of **** all.
No, it's whats called having a different ( and educated ) opinion to yours! I know in the dictatorship world of your own head, nobody is allowed to disagree with you, but in the real world people do and will! So carry on sitting behind your keyboard telling yourself that you know more then everyone else and your opinion is all that counts but guess what....it doesn't. Typical person of the internet age! Spouts off with the safety of never having to actually deal face to face! We got a good deal for the lad and we will hopefully see a decent sell on one day. I'm pretty sure if we had rejected the approach and he ended up leaving on a free, you would have had issues with that as well
It's funny reading all the ****e you lot spout... Like you know how to run a football club better than people that actually run football clubs..... Sat at your keyboards bashing away like a Harry Enfield character.... "You don't want to do it like that....."
If you don't think Watkins is better then you need to watch more football. Saying one's a winger and the other is a forward is just a lazy argument. We couldn't have got more, we had to scramble around to get that from West Ham. There was no other offers or clubs in for him permanently. And you're quite right but the Bowen price was inflated as a result of the above you mentioned.
The irony of this is that they spent their first few years selling players slightly under market value so they could reinvest and improve. Their model revolves around selling players, if they hold out for top whack and don't sell, it completely messes up their model.
The piss poor mental strength of our remaining players relegated us. We needed 3/4 wins to stay up, even without Bowen & Grosicki, there's no excuse.
It most likely did, but long term him going for that money was the best for the club, if he just left on a free it would have been a total **** up
