Latest from Monsieur Barnier - the UK may own its sovereign waters but the EU owns the fish in them. Unfuckingbelievable

No, he's claiming ownership in UK waters. It's part of his argument why the UK must let EU factory ships in

Saying we’d be arguing about fish over four years later would have been a less successful bus slogan.

Fishing represents 0.1% of the UK economy, with 10,000 people employed.

That's actually more than I had expected, but still tiny.

And some people on here don't accept that it's the intransigence from the EU that is leading to a no deal.

    There are none so blind.....

They should really just kowtow to us as the weaker negotiating partner given we won the war.

Would you sacrifice 0.1% of the economy (or part thereof) for the sake of securing a deal that benefits the other 99.9%?

We've offered them fishing renewable annually. They want it in perpetuity and to continue to rape our seas. Massive point of principal for an island nation.

    Principle or intransigence?

    Edit: Rape our seas? :emoticon-0136-giggl

It matters to a nation regaining its independence that it is not bludgeoned into giving up what it promised voters in the Brexit vote. Besides, this government should not bind subsequent governments in perpetuity

How many Leave voters were bothered about fishing? It's a tiny issue for ****'s sake.

    Still, EU intransigence.
