it doesn't with yours either as it just assumes extra costs are incurred further down the line .

Mine is opposite... since I started in my current line of work in 1986 I have never had a day off sick and have paid a small fortune into 'the system' in tax and NI ... my prescriptions post heart op would have been around £250 per annum until turning 60 (less with prepayment plan which I did) ... I would much rather contribute to nobody needing to pay for essential medicine (and good education for all) than for pointless nuclear deterrents or self indulgent space exploration when the world we live in still has people dying before their time of health issues or malnutrition ... not everyone shares my view, of course <cheers>

It doesn’t assume anything though, it clearly shows that additional treatment and visits were required by a percentage of those who had skipped prescriptions due to cost.

Nearly 90% of prescriptions are handed over for nothing anyway, and scrapping fees altogether would only increase the NHS coffers by less than 0.5% of its total revenue. So the specific segment you’re referring to is relative buttons.

the problem is that the percentage of the population paying ( direct ) tax is shrinking while demands on the health & care system is rising . I see nothing wrong in those who can afford it paying towards their prescriptions .

err not according to that report as they included the pre payment certificate ones in that 90% so what they really meant was "at point of sale no payment changed hand".

Talking of prescriptions, it's amazes me, the items that can now be bought via online chemists, more expensive than prescription but can be bought none the less. Example being, many weeks back I'd bit the underside of my tongue, which developed to an ulcer that was quite sore. Well I know all these gels, that supermarkets sell, are a complete and utter waste of money. However, what I did know was that Hydrocortisone tablets, were an excellent and probably only in my personal opinion, effective treatment. So I looked online, now I never expected to see the drug for sale, but thought i'd chance my luck. Reason being it is steroid base. And guess what, I managed to find a chemist that sold it! So I filled out the online form, and placed the order. I can't remember how much they cost, let's say around £15...I thought, might have been scammed here, because I still couldn't believe you could buy them...But hey presto order arrived! Although trying to hold a tablet under one side of your tongue is not recommended (it dissolves, very, very slowly).

Disclaimer, before taking any drug, you must read the instructions. I am not recommending this drug, just highlighting my surprise at the availability of it.

You know where you went wrong don't you. Next time don't bite your tongue, just tell them exactly what you think and ban the fckers!

Re: online prescriptions, how did you trust the site? Unless it's Boots or Lloyds I wouldn't trust any online supplier. Heard too many horror stories about fake medicines with all sorts of lethal chemicals in them. Hydrocortisone would defo be one I'd want to make sure about.

I've never had an issue with buying from online chemists. As long has you know what you are ordering, the recommended dosages, and what there use is for. Never had a problem yet, obviously I always order from UK based companies and stick to a specific two that I personally use. Anything from Co-codamol, non prescribed dosage through to hand gels, although easier to get the latter in supermarkets now.

I ‘m not sure how the taxation system works in Germany, but I got the impression that this money is “ring fenced” purely for healthcare whereas ours goes into a pot?

Sort of as originally NI was theoretically to provide for retirement ,unemployment , sickness benefits plus the NHS . Now it is really just another tax as contribution based benefits are being deliberately run down .

dear God no wonder the NHS is falling apart since we have no intention of funding it .

Edit: i do know i could get an exemption certificate by claiming i cannot leave the house without help which isn't actually true but by dint of semantics it has been accepted by the authorities in the case pf some wheelchair users who argued the chair constituted "help" <doh>
