... when Dylan goes who, of any consequence, is left? Most of the greats are gone ... ... who's left except the karaoke singers/Frank Sinatra impersonators like Robbie Williams. Even people who didn't like Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Hank Williams, etc recognise their legacy. What legacy will the current top performers leave? Modern music, like modern football, is better but much worse imo ... ... too slick, too professional, too bland.
None of those have endured tbh ... ... the last significant thing Ozzy wrote was an email to his doctor. In all honesty I couldn't name a song of his in the last quarter of a century.
It is. I pre-ordered it, hoping to be pleased ... ... but was amazed. I'm not one for nostalgia, and go out to watch new acts, but there's a drastic lack of variety and people taking chances.
Paul Simon is still going although I don't know what he has written lately. Sinead, love her or hate her, wrote some fabulous songs. Clare Bowen's first album was amazing. I choke every time I hear Warrior. She seems genuine. I don't see anything great in Cohen's tower of song for now. But then things are never as good as they were in my day.
Ha ha Paul McCartney, the most successful musician of all time, with a net worth of about £1billion because of his singer/songwriter/musician (including writing many songs for other artistes, and even producing classical music since 1991) career, hasn't 'endured' His singing voice isn't what it used to be, but he seems to have lasted a few years, mind So when you say 'who of any consequence is left?' I can only think of the very best . . . . it'll be a very sad day when Sir James Paul McCartney leaves us
I accept all that but he's producing nothing of note, and hasn't for years ... ... my point is that the current artists are leaving no legacy, as he has. My question is, who of the current crop will leave anything that will endure ... ... will anyone, in 50 years, be remembered? That ginger lad is supposed to be the best on the planet, but I couldn't name any of his songs.
It's been a long time since he produced anything outstanding ... ... that's a a shame as some of his early songs are wonderful. But search his solo songs and it's pretty poor. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/paul-mccartneys-40-greatest-solo-songs-194193/
Don Henley, David Gilmore, Mark Knopfler Justin Hayward, Van Morrison, Admittedly, true greats are thin on the ground now
I used to like Van Morrison but just can't abide him now tbh. A lot of his songs are entertaining him, not me.
An old school friend of mine is in the music business and knows Van the Man....apparently one of the biggest t wats ever to walk the earth
After Astral Weeks he has been continually pressing the repeat button, and this goes for most others to be honest. The days of discovering anything new seems to have vanished as quickly as it appeared, we were very lucky to have lived through those decades and I feel sorry for the kids of to-day that have missed it. I too think Dylan is probably one of the few remaining, and the only one who can still surprise, but for me he is a poet first and a musician second which might explain his longevity, some of his lines are pure magic, and always will be.
He's only got one.... Pick one, any one , and have a listen to it. Thats it, you've heard the lot. Boring, bland, instantly forgettable ****e.
She's had her 15 minutes imo ... ... her next effort will be the same depressing dirge as her last one. There are much better singer songwriters but without the massive promotion company.
She is skinny now, keep up, yes she is a good singer/songwriter but iirc keeps knackering her vocal chords and needs surgery. Probably needs some opera training. That being said definitely a good un. Of course there is the ubiquitous Ed Sheeran, prolific but does not do it for me. Really not into rap, but still like Bob Marley though.
Bob was one of my last heroes but even he was in a rut until Redemption Song came out, which showed he was still capable of surprises, its one of his best imo..
