Yeah right, of course he was!
I could ask you the same question.
Even IF he was only "a couple of hundred thousand" that defeats your argument in itself!! Never mind then the cost of the others. Why on earth would they pay any fee (permanent or loan) if they were simply asset stripping? Please Syd don't bother answering, just let it go now.

I think we have vastly different ideas of what asset stripping is which is why a few posts ago I suggested everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Nope.
They are replacing them, but with lower cost, and inevitably, overall lower quality.
Asset stripping would be selling anything and everything with any value, and either not replacing it or else replacing it as cheaply as possible. They haven't done that e.g. they didn't have to spend on Scott, Festus, Wilks, etc, they could have used kids or total freebies, and we would also have seen others sold too.
Their approach has been dumb in practice / execution, but it is not asset stripping. With better execution their approach could easily have seen us still in the Championship (which I'm sure was their intention, but yet again they ****ed up, or more specifically, Ehab ****ed up - I wonder what his old man says to him behind closed doors).

So they bought a nice house in a up and coming neighbourhood, though paid over the odds as they thought there was some land attached which they thought they could sell on and make a bigger profit ( & I suspect somebody would have bought the house, even if it had gone to repossession and someone had bought it at a bargain price as nobody's house had not sold in that street), anyway as times gone on the house / street has become less desirable, not helped by the homeowners not keeping the place up to spec and sacking the gardeners, cleaners and other staff. It all looks even worse as the latest boundary commission has moved them to a even less desirable area. All along whilst selling the family valuables in the background and replacing them with Tesco Value range hoping no one notices...

And the coaching/backroom/academy staff have been beefed up. Believe Darnbourgh has a staff of five or six under him alone, and they don't come cheap.
I'm as gutted as the next fan about dropping into league one, more so about the lost opportunities and the way the PL days and money has been squandered, because it has.
But look at it like this. We are rebuilding with a relatively new manager and football and the finances are changing by the day. We were getting gates under 10,000 before the lockdown, the lowest in the Championship, and the public had obviously fell out of love with the club.
League 1 could be a fresh start, more games, more victories ( hopefully) and a chance to regroup, build up the fanbase and start again.
That could be the twisted logic of the club at the moment. Its not mine,
I think we have gone down without a fight and the club has been mishandled, meaning this relegation could so easily have been avoided.
So I do not think it is a case of asset stripping at all just poor rank bad management of a football club.

Many haven't fallen out of love with the club, they've just fallen out with the owners of the club and that's not going to change in League One. This club is going to continue to die, unless the cancer that's killing it, is removed.

asset stripping
/ˈasɛt ˌstrɪpɪŋ/

noun
  1. the practice of taking over a company in financial difficulties and selling each of its assets separately at a profit without regard for the company's future.

Imagine thinking that's not what they're doing. <doh>

They hadn't fallen out with the owners when we played Chelsea this season had they ?
The owners are obviously keeping some away but the main reason for the low attendances is our league position.
If we somehow hit a winning combination in League 1 the gates will be higher then they were to see a losing team in the Championship no matter who the owners are.

The two are inextricably linked.

People want to feel optimistic about the clubs prospects. That won't change in league 1 without investment and a change in direction.

If people can feel a little pride in a club on an upward trajectory as opposed to a downward spiral then I've no doubt they'd return.

The problem is that the club will be in managed decline (whether you can quite call it asset stripping or not) until it is sold and the owners have indicated this is going to be the case.

We had higher average attendance in League One and Two, with multiple 20k attendances in both as well.

When we stayed up in the Championship at the death in 06/07, our average was 18,583.

Stop using that bullshit argument.

Its not bullshit at all. We were a different club in 2006/7. My point is a winning team in League 1 will probably get bigger attendances then a losing team in the Championship this season.

It is also true to say that full attendance potential will never be achieved whilst the owners are still here. Whatever league or form we're in at the time, there'll be an increase in attendance as soon as they sell up.

You're right, we were a different club in 06/07.

We didn't have owners who were asset stripping and destroying the club and being the main thing driving the fans away.

Also, by that logic, wouldn't a winning team in the Championship get bigger attendance than a losing team in the Prem?

I'm guessing you think that Blackpool's attendances had little to do with the Oystons, either...

I'm not doubting that at all. There has been no feel good factor at city since New Years Day, one win in 17 games doesn't entice many to want to leave the pub/armchair and venture out and support the team.
Likewise there isn't much feel good factor about when a club is fighting a relegation battle.
When we were attracting decent gates in the lower leagues at the KC it was because we were wining and going for back to back promotions. I doubt if we'd have been getting 20k if we were stuck in the bottom three not being able to buy a win from anywhere.

We got 20k stuck in the bottom three not being able to buy a win from anywhere in 2009/10.

Kept the Roller, the Lambo and that stupid expensive tricycle thing though, got to keep up appearances.

On the basis that Ehab still has his hands on the tiller, and that Terry is in charge, I forecast they won't be! Both need to go ASAP

Why do people keep on referring to this Chelsea match as if it was attended by our stay away fans? It wasn’t. It was largely attended by tourists who came to see Chelsea and will more than likely not step foot in the KC again.

Different senario altogether, how many pass holders did we have in 2009/10 and it followed the most successful season in the clubs history and our new found Premier League fans hadn't got tired of us yet.

But that goes against your incredible logic, surely?

We also still got 20k average in 2016/17, well after we were 'tired' of it.
