Any destruction/removal of statues or burning of books is worrying. Usually the hallmark of intolerance, totalitarianism, barbarism & ignorance. In short, for ****s.
Don't shoot the messenger, the Daily Mail is one of the few easy and free to view papers. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-statues-removed-orders-landmarks-review.html Also https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowb...ed-Netflix-BBC-iPlayer-BritBox-blackface.html
I’m no expert in reading that publication, thankfully, but neither of those links report what Sadiq Khan said about statues and street names in London do they? One of them is about Little Britain (which by the way should be banned because it’s just ****)
Bloke in Bristol (mayor?) was expecting the Colston statue to be recovered at some point and displayed in a museum. Decent result imo.
Concur, Little Britain is ****. Not sure they have made the right decision though- smacks of knee jerk 'me too' ism.
I have heard that the Government are to announce the 're-opening of scrap merchants with immediate effect....Apparently there's a glut of statues awaiting meltdown.
Now that is strange, clicking on the link now it opens in an app format, I copied and pasted the address direct from the papers site? It originally said Sadiq Khan had identified or supported calls (can't remember which) for 60 sites of racist things to be removed. Statues, plaques, or street names.. The Little Britain thing was just something else nearby, can't say I've seen it but I seem to remember some found it funny and thought it was popular.
Not yet,we're only in phase 1 of the dismantlement act 2020(which includes but is not limited to,figures and street names).Phase 4 will see the removal of 'figure-heads'..
The HDM have today published a list of statues of people in Hull, who may have a dodgy past, they include William Wilberforce, Amy Johnson, Philip Larkin and David Whitfield. I **** you not.
Right, let's go through a few of the names in that HDM article to see what bollocks they wrote. Amy Johnson: "She refused to invite her parents to her own wedding while her short-lived marriage to fellow flier Jim Mollinson ended in divorce after a series of high-profile public bust-ups." Seriously!? That's her 'dodgy past'? That she didn't get on with her parents and that she had a bad relationship with a man who had alcohol issues? **** off you absolute ****s. King William of Orange: "Ironically, a fall from his real-life horse is said to have triggered his death from pneumonia in 1702. His horse, Sorrel, stumbled in a mole's burrow, throwing William to the ground. The king broke his collar bone in the fall and never recovered." He ****ing died. Your 'dodgy past' is that he fell off a horse and died. All the things you could've looked at, and that's what you chose. No words. William Wilberforce: "Wilberforce's achievements were probably aided by a daily dose of opium, originally prescribed to him to counter long-standing stomach pains. It's believed he took the highly-addictive drug for 45 years until his death." So... he took a medication that was normal for the time which aided serious health issues which he had? WHAT A ****ING MONSTER! Forget all that abolishing slavery stuff everyone, ****ING GET RID!
Doing things that were acceptable at the time (100's of years ago) but not today are reason enough apparently. Just as doing something which was frowned upon at the time but is perfectly normal these days is also good enough. Funny old world.
Could be a flash point at the cenotaph today, HDM reporting Patriots are going to defend it, what are the current ethics of our Boar War Memorial?
