That's interesting mate. My understanding was quite different. It puts a different complexion on things. You can understand any wartime command not being too happy about enemy combatants meeting up for drinks and a laugh.
I saw a documentary on it
it started with the Germans sing silent night in German which actually sounds better than in English and a handful of British climbing out of the trenches to listen to it and then joining in
Snowballed from there including snowball fight where there was some snow
Human nature could have triumphed it it had been allowed to

I knew about the silent night and I've seen a re-enactment of that, agree it sounded great in german and in no-mans land looked quite moving.
Fcking stupid war... most are tbf. What do they say about the Great War, something like it was just far easier to have the war than not.

Was a tragic waste of lives and the way it ended led directly to WW11

As a firm handshaker I’m concerned this will lose me my advantage in interview situations over weak handshakers.

When I had my own business, I learned to set a lot of store by handshakes. I spent a day in Athens once, negotiating a deal with an export agent. The negotiations went really well, better than I had hoped, the guy was helpful and easy to deal with. Then we shook hands; a slippery, feeble handshake. He turned out to be an absolute nightmare to pin down, and pretty untrustworthy.

The bookmaker Fred Done, owner of BetFred and the Tote, is an old school character in a business not generally known for the honesty of it’s participants. “Fred seals every bit of business with a handshake”, one of his competitors once told the Racing Post. “Shake hands with Fred on a deal, and to him that’s as binding as any written contract”.

We’ll all be bowing in accordance with our Chinese overlords soon anyway. A few on here will regret being rude to Bobby when the time comes.

I myself have no reason to worry, having always treated Bobby with the same level of respect and cordial bonhomie that I extend to everyone on here ...

My daughters tend to warn new boyfriends to make sure they return a firm grip when first meeting me ... they know a weak floppy handshake will mean I'll be taking the piss ...
