Sorry, I missed this earlier. He was an Islamic extremist and imprisoned in Egypt for belonging to a banned terror organisation just after 9/11. He was represented by ... Yes, you guessed it ... Sadiq Khan.

My apologies to all, I do realise that this stuff is unrelated to the thread title and will cease to post anything unrelated.
No, thank you Nines. I never knew this. A while back he was on LBC talking about comments from the Ryan Air bloke about terrorists and flight security. I actually thought at the time he was very favorable towards one of the sides of the argument. :emoticon-0148-yes: Anyway back to Covid

I heard on radio this morning a doctor saying one reason BAME deaths were higher is many of the different races immune systems develop differently according to prevalent diseases in their areas of the world. It can make them much more resilient to local diseases such as Malaria but conversely weakens their resistance to other diseases. It underlines the difficulty in a 'one size fits all' treatment...
The Maori and Pacific islanders seem to be underrepresented in the numbers here
And they are overrepresented in all the bad health statistics

Haven't you lot got anything to do?
I catch up with this thread in the evening, go to work for a day, come home and there is another six pages of your waffle.
You lot need a football match!
I get it every morning
five pages
Makes me late out the door most days

Further to earlier post about fruit pickers being flown it.......it turns out that the company chartered a Ryan air flight and flew 189 Bulgarian nationals in.....they were tested prior to leaving and will be subject to 14 days lockdown before starting work......company has defended move saying that they need around 200 seasonal staff and only 40 locals applied for the jobs despite record unemployment.....also these folk have been coming here for years and are highly trained to do job at the required speed whereas it could take up to 6 months to train the locals to work to the same speed....

Make of that what you will......
At least they will be in lockdown
Sounds like they would be straight to work in the UK
After traveling to the farm on public transport from the airport

Do they have the chops to deliver in the timescales they have been talking about Beth? I have to confess that the level of testing and trialling in a vaccine that could be offered outside a trial setting by September leaves me a little nervous, but if you rate this team I will.

I am hoping that GSK, AZ and any other manufacturing sites will be offering to scale up immediately. Ireland should be laughing on this given the huge number of Pharma manufacturing sites around Cork.

Stan, what I think is happening is that they are taking some shortcuts because they have got loads of money (probably from the Gates Foundation).

So the Jenner are with another company, who they have worked with before. and are sort making a vaccine they have made before. So it should work

...They take a bits of the Coronovirus (identifying the right bits is the key, but there are systems and programs to do that now) and mix it an adjuvent (that is something that stimulates the immune system). The short cut I think they are doing is that they are making a very large batch before fully testing it. They are doing the testing whilst they are make 1-5 million doses of vaccine. If the vaccine does not work/is ineffective they throw it away. Thanks to the Gates money they can do it, if it was funded by government/pharm moneythey just could not afford to do it. That is how Sarah Gilbert explained it on the radio a couple of days ago. She said it would be no use, getting a working vaccine tested and approved by Christmas and then spending another 9 months making enough for immunisation. Millions will have died and the pandemic might be burnt out.

I think Sooper asked about how long the immunity lasts. That is a bit variable, and we don't quite know with THIS virus but normally if you see a certain infection (e.g. flu), or are vaccinated against it, your immune system will protect you from that strain on a second wave. Many of us have had MMR and that lasts a life time. I would imagine if a good vaccine is made...there will be pharmas all over the world ready to jump in and scale up the production

Will you need to get one every year

Dunno if anyone is really interested but QPR are doing an ‘RHeroes’ thing where key workers get nominated......
My lad is on there with his girlfriend (who nominated him) and I’m well proud......Just wanted to share something nice :)

I'll vote for him ... unless he's old bill or something Stainesy. What does he do?

I know mate......:)
I did giggle.........btw, we have a load of firefighters at our place now to help out.......Seem like a good bunch of lads.

Yep, firefighters are generally good folk. They're usually a great bunch of lads and lasses. Always there when there is no one else to turn to. I've heard that they've been out delivering various bits of equipment between shouts. It's at times like this I miss being part of it.

Stay strong mate, focus when you're on duty and completely relax when you're not.
