Reading between the lines I think Hall, who seems to be the players leader, has implied our players are "happy" to take a pay cut. But they are currently being stopped by some decision or power by the PFA. It may change today

I’m all for the clapping. It’s a nice thing to do which seems to make a lot of people happy and hurts no one. I just don’t want to see gormless Tory plebs on tv doing it while their decisions put nurses and doctors into a gun fight with a spoon.

Why don't more of the players actually come out and say I'm taking a cut instead of massaging Taylor's oversized ego? The majority of Premier League players are on £40-50k+ a WEEK, think about it. A tragic possibility. When you kick out anyone who isn’t a yes man or careerist to follow an ideology you know is economically ruinous you aren’t left with much to choose from. Gove would probably win.
