I suppose it depends which experts you choose to listen to, or perhaps how much the government's chosen experts may have been influenced by what the government wanted to hear - confirmation bias. This country was an outlier up until last Friday in declining to take any measures to restrict social contact. I was attracted to the herd immunity theory, probably because it meant that my liberties were not being impinged upon. Perhaps Johnson was similarly attracted to it because he hoped he could avoid taking unpopular measures which would cripple the economy.

Ah yes, of course, because of 9/11.

I don’t know what I concluded, nothing really, is why I asked. I couldn’t see why an intensive care doctor would have a problem identifying himself while reiterating what we all being told anyway.

To be honest I really don’t know anymore....just hearing that there will be some drastic changes coming soon as it’s getting difficult to see how we are gonna cope like this for much longer. We are being kept in the dark but as always, rumours abound.....not all pleasant.

This volunteering lark is becoming harder than I thought.....contacted a few food banks who say they have enough people already (which is good news I guess) so last resort will be to go down my local Tesco’s and offer to help out the elders during ‘Golden hour’.....if they will let me.

Don’t think my MH is gonna be that good staying at home with the kids for a whole week :)

I think he's damned whatever option he follows because of who he is. I look back at some decisions, such as allowing all those fans over from Madrid as Spain was going into lockdown as criminally irresponsible, everything seems to be reactive rather than planned when the evidence of Italy was there to be seen. It only seems to be the last few days the penny has dropped...

Spoke to a mate yesterday who is now getting his hay fever as usual ( he works with plants) and says every time he sneezes people walk in the other direction... :emoticon-0107-sweat Crap I’m a big sufferer!

now you know I hate conspiracy theories and ITK because 99% of it is BS... however some of you will know a very good friend of mine works for a certain organisation. :emoticon-0105-wink:
Anyway I won’t be saying anything confidential... but don’t go booking any flights soon. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Liverpool FC has offered to loan its stewards to local supermarkets.
Can you imagine if QPR did the same? <yikes>

Well I have been kidding myself that the panic buyers are a minority making life difficult for the rest of us. But the CEO of Sainsbury’s says 50% of shoppers are buying twice as much as usual.

Sweepstake of potential measures for the next week:
    - all ‘non essential’ businesses to be told to close
    - London lockdown - no one in or out, full quarantine
    - supermarkets/food shops told to mark out ‘social distancing’ spaces and provide protection for their staff
    - threat of rationing made explicit if hoarding continues
    - police to enforce social distancing rules, like France only leave the house for essential work, food/medicine shopping, individual exercise (temporary, this will be next to go). Fines for transgression. Must carry ID at all times
    - guidelines for who gets access to intensive care/ventilators developed, implemented where capacity limits are reached eg have to be under 65.
    - all over 65s told to make their position on resuscitation explicit, ie whether they want someone to try and save their life.
    - bodies disposed of rapidly by the state, without ceremony. Religious groups uproar blah blah
    - Very visible army presence in worst hit areas.

None of this would be necessary with strict adherence to the current guidelines.

Does anyone know the survival rate for patients who are admitted to ITU/on ventilators? Looks to me that a high percentage of people who get to this stage die, from the numbers said to be on critical yesterday and death numbers today. But I’m far from certain the numbers are reliable.

Sorry to be so miserable, it is a lovely day up here in Warwickshire. I will soon walk the dog, muttering furiously at the people who still don’t know what 6ft looks like.
