Well I have been kidding myself that the panic buyers are a minority making life difficult for the rest of us. But the CEO of Sainsbury’s says 50% of shoppers are buying twice as much as usual.

Sweepstake of potential measures for the next week:
- all ‘non essential’ businesses to be told to close
- London lockdown - no one in or out, full quarantine
- supermarkets/food shops told to mark out ‘social distancing’ spaces and provide protection for their staff
- threat of rationing made explicit if hoarding continues
- police to enforce social distancing rules, like France only leave the house for essential work, food/medicine shopping, individual exercise (temporary, this will be next to go). Fines for transgression. Must carry ID at all times
- guidelines for who gets access to intensive care/ventilators developed, implemented where capacity limits are reached eg have to be under 65.
- all over 65s told to make their position on resuscitation explicit, ie whether they want someone to try and save their life.
- bodies disposed of rapidly by the state, without ceremony. Religious groups uproar blah blah
- Very visible army presence in worst hit areas.

None of this would be necessary with strict adherence to the current guidelines.

Does anyone know the survival rate for patients who are admitted to ITU/on ventilators? Looks to me that a high percentage of people who get to this stage die, from the numbers said to be on critical yesterday and death numbers today. But I’m far from certain the numbers are reliable.

Sorry to be so miserable, it is a lovely day up here in Warwickshire. I will soon walk the dog, muttering furiously at the people who still don’t know what 6ft looks like.

I haven't changed my shopping habits in any way. But I can see if you have a large family and ever-hungry kids, you might stock up a couple of weeks worth, if you're being told you might not be able to leave the house. For me, these aren't the culprits. There are a small percentage of people that are taking stuff just because it's there. Six months provisions - and then there are those that intend to sell it at a profit. I'd make that illegal in times of emergency. I believe it is in the US

I also read that the loss of smell and taste senses can be symptoms. My daughter, who lives with us, has lost both of theses senses and is also feeling light-headed and has chronic tiredness. She doesn't have a temperature or a cough, but maybe she has a mild dose of the virus. The sooner these antibody testing kits are available, the better.
Is loss of a sense of humour a symptom? Lot of that about......

The frustration of not knowing whether you have already have the virus and recovered must be immense. I had a couple of evenings where I was knackered and a bit shivery, but woke up fine the next day. Suspect I was just genuinely tired. If you know you have had it and have antibodies you can actually help with a lot of confidence.

Looks like you lot in London are in the vanguard of this. But you should be out the other end earlier as a result.

Raab, Gove, Sunak and Hancock in a death battle to be named ‘designated survivor’ in the event of Boris going under.

I really don’t give a flying ****, anyone have any strong preferences?

Expert on conspiracy theories. What do you conclude from him not revealing his full name and where he works?

He might have a contract which precludes him talking about his work in public (I have to confess I haven’t listened to what he has to say. I’m sure he is having a very bad time).

He might equally want to protect his privacy. And who could blame him?

The only nagging question for me is that Wuhan is where China's main chemical weapons research takes place.

From that list, Sunak by a country mile!

I’ve not used a gym in about 3 years, preferring instead to work out at home. Body weight exercises, press ups, pull ups, lunges etc and one dumbbell covers me top to toe. In the past I’ve been a 5 or 6 times a week kind of guy, but I’ve not had a day off now since October/November last year. I know it’s probably detrimental to my progress not to have days off, but I’m obsessed with working out and feeling strong, mainly so that when 4 blokes try and jump me and stuff me in their government Range Rover, I can take them out.
At least you don't have the additional worry about posting on matchday threads for the time being.

I'm not too sure about this, they're restricting space to exercise forcing people to share less space ...

That's wrong in my opinion. We're lucky enough to live next to Ruislip Woods and often walk to the lido and back, which is about a 3 mile round trip. People need to be able to use the open spaces in London.

We went for a nice long walk this morning and commented how lucky we are.
We walk out of our front door and within 5 minutes we are out in the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside.

Problem is the open spaces aren’t so open now there’s nowhere else to go. Playgrounds are mobbed with kids touching swings and playing. We’re showing every day that we can’t be trusted to do this sensibly so we’ll be confined to our homes for all but the essentials soon.

I think that's inevitable, I'm fortunate to have a garden, I feel sorry for those cooped up in flats...

Seems to me, the more dense the population is, the more likely the virus is to spread. We're a very densely populated country (England, anyway). And London is cheek by jowel. Part of the problem

Just back from walking the dog. Much better distancing discipline from the people making the most of this beautiful day, though we did have to cross the road a couple of times to avoid clumps of people oblivious to the needs of others. Also lucky enough to be within a stroll of open fields but after the recent deluges they are very muddy, and the prospect of washing the dog on return is too much to go on them at the moment. I dread being told that we can’t go for a stroll.
