It's only just started FFS. Using the current death stats is stupid and it'll be double in only a couple of days. If we didn't do anything hundreds of thousands of people would die from this in the UK.

He's attention seeking again, me, me, me

A couple of points in reply to that.

Firstly, it hasn’t “just started” around the world.

Secondly, it was never going to be the case that the UK would “do nothing.” My deep criticism of this debacle isn’t about what is being done, but rather how it’s being done. The way that most people are reacting to this flu is exactly how some people reacted to the death of Princess Diana. That is to say, it’s been a massive overreaction.

Thirdly, the fact that 50,100 people died as a result of bad weather, in an alleged first world country, with good housing, social benefits, healthcare, infrastructure, etc is far more scandalous and worthy of your scaremongering than this current flu epidemic.

As I said, I am not seeking to demean the danger posed by this flu, merely to apply some perspective, so that the more irrational among you can get some kind of grip on your lives, and encourage those around you to do the same.

Hope you’re self-isolating rather than allowing yourself to become an inevitable strain on the health service. This thing has barely got started. There will come a point soon where saveable people aren’t treated because there aren’t the resources to help everyone who needs it.

WTF has cold weather deaths got to do with this? If us staying apart from each other in winter would save 50000 people I'm sure we'd do it.

If anything as a nation we've been underreacting, partly because of people like you who don't think it's serious.

I completely agree that it is an absolute scandal that those things go on in a country with so much wealth. However, that fact does not detract from the need to take extremely serious steps to counteract the threat of this virus.

How would you have the country do things differently?

I'll give you rational, many countries have closed their borders and are accepting the economic disaterous consequences as a result of this virus. We are being guided by the World Health Organisation, by many government and world leaders, form Boris Johnson through to Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron. Take your pick out of those who you choose to believe, along with China who enforced more totalirian methods on their citizens, even the mad man Trump has come on board. I listen to the doctors I know, that have closed their own surgeries and will no longer see patients unless in emergency to protect themselves. I listen to medical professionals that I may know. I've listened to the voices echoing out of Italy for fear this is a virus like we have never seen before in our lifetime. You sir can do what you wish, not until you lose a loved one will you listen, whereas I'd prefer to er on the side of caution and listen to those people, rather than listening to a busker who's customers will die as a result of this.

Over 20 off now...think some maybe taking the piss.

We've even had people from other depots in today to help us.

I'm buckled, Worked the heaviest grid today, enough for 4 people, but no, they are short, so put 2 of us on...

This may not sound much, but 1800 cases of bananas, at 18kg, between 2 people, in 3 hours ffs.

I'm. either gonna be the fittest 51 year old in the world, or very dead at this rate. And it won't be from this ****ing virus.

Pace yourself mate.

But you know that. Still, don’t run yourself into the ground. Either have a day off or try and get a shift on the bogroll aisle.

Today China have allowed people in Wuhan to leave their homes for the first time in six weeks.

Not convinced they would do this if there was a big risk of re-infection

I would be without a scuzzy tabloid press that deals in scaremongering and over sensationalism, and without a media that misinforms the public, and I would rather that people act more rationally and without the degrees of ignorance that I have witnessed.

Incidentally, I have read an article written by one scientist who puts forward the argument for letting this virus do its worst, like every other flu strain in recorded history, so that we build a natural immunity to it. I see the logic in that.

Yeah, a lot more will die, but you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
