An opinion you tried to justify by claiming hearsay.

    Ok.
If you do come across anything more substantial to support your view let me know as I'd genuinely prefer you to be right than the current info from imperial and WHO.

Barnet ground being repurposed to help local hospitals and council.

    https://www.barnetfc.com/news/2020/march/club-statement/

Colleagues of mine working in the medical industry and more specifically in hospitals, say they are clearing wards in preparation for the expected massive influx of infected patients. They are on full alert with the military on standby and I believe we are only days away from a full lock down. Many will die and the world will not be the same when this is all over. My heart goes out to all those who will become and already are infected.

We are ready to support our community through this crisis and for several months now we have been scanning patients for The Royal Free Hospital to help them reduce their waiting lists. We hope to continue this service through the crisis and provide any other assistance that’s needed to help free up hospital time and beds.

We have also spoken with Harrow Council about repurposing our kitchens to cook free food for their meals on wheels service. This very important assistance will be needed to feed the elderly in our community, who cannot go out to shop and cook for themselves during isolation.

    <laugh>

We’ve actually set up a really good system now, not taking the credit for it myself as it’s been a team effort.
Basically we’ve got over 500 volunteers signed up to support a parish of around 5000 people. Every household has had a card through their door with a number of their volunteer to contact if they are isolating and need help getting food and provisions etc.

Also loads of local business have stepped up and are offering free home delivery for essential provisions, food etc and hot meals, cleaning products etc.

people are offering dog walks, telephone chats and a pop round even if they have to talk through the letterbox just to check on people and make sure they are okay.

We’ve got teachers who will be home from school offering to do live web casts to keep the kids occupied and a couple of DJ’s who are going to do live streams in the evenings to keep spirits up.

really proud of my community and even prouder to be a part of it. <ok>

Borussia Monchengladbach's players have offered to forgo their wages, with the German Football League (DFL) warning the coronavirus pandemic could affect thousands of jobs.

The top two divisions in Germany are currently suspended until 2 April.

"The players know what's going on," said the Bundesliga club's managing director Stephan Schippers.

"It is their job. They have already informed themselves and thought about it."

On Wednesday the German Football Association (DFB) said the national team would donate 2.5m euros (£2.3m) to help fight the coronavirus crisis in the country.

According to German newspaper Bild, Borussia are the first professional club in Germany at which players have voluntarily offered to sacrifice part of their salary, with coach Marco Rose and the club's directors following suit.

"The team has offered to forgo salary if it can help the club and the employees," added Schippers.

"The goal is for Borussia Monchengladbach to survive this corona crisis. The goal is to do this without having to give notice of termination.

"To do this, we will all have to work hard together and we cannot rule out that this will also include measures being taken by affected companies throughout Germany, for example the use of short-time work."

The football industry in Germany currently employs around 56,000 people.

On Monday, DFL chief Christian Seifert outlined the that the coronavirus outbreak could have, with broadcast, sponsorship and ticketing money all affected.

Schippers, who stressed, "every euro we don't have to refund [to fans for postponed games] will help us", agreed with his assessment that playing behind closed doors could be the "only way to survive" even though it would still cost them around 2m euros per game to do so.

"We all agree Bundesliga football without spectators is not what we want," added Schippers.

"But for the next few weeks and months we have to realise that only a continuation of the Bundesliga games - without spectators - should enable many clubs to survive economically."

Can I just ask, why are people still putting cards through doors <whistle>

Although the risk is very low, I thought the virus could still be spread by parcels, post, junk mail?

  13. I saw Joe’s post (late) and felt compelled to log on to offer him my prayers. I hope that you are able to hold on until the World regains its sanity.

Sadly, I fear that more deaths will be caused for fear of this flu strain than by it. Such is the general stupidity of people in these times that we live.

    Go on then, I will entertain you for a brief few posts;

Explain your rational, why you 'fear that more deaths will be caused for fear of this flue strain than by it' ?

  17. As of today, 108 people are believed to have died as a result of this flu. Among a population of around 70,000,000, that number represents approximately 0.00015% of the population.

    Let’s put this into perspective.

Between November 2017 and March 2018, around 50,100 more people (ie above seasonal expectations) died as a result of the cold snap, in the UK.

That number represents approximately 0.07% of the UK population.

Deaths worldwide from covid-19 currently stand at less than 10,000.

I am not saying that covid-19 isn’t dangerous, but at the moment it is far less of a threat to health and our freedoms than the idiots who are ramping up the fear.

Just came from a meeting with the big boss. She's convinced that lockdown is starting tomorrow night at 6pm and she needs volunteers to look after kids for key workers over the next few weeks including weekends. This will apparently involve needing a signed letter from her saying we're needed in work for when we're stopped in the street.

It's only just started FFS. Using the current death stats is stupid and it'll be double in only a couple of days. If we didn't do anything hundreds of thousands of people would die from this in the UK.

I think I'm more likely to listen to the view of medical experts than that of a busker <ok>
