Boris is trusting the public to do the right thing, rather than enforcing it.

These are the same public that voted for Brexit, and indeed him.

Just my opinion, but he holds the average member of public far too highly - people will not do what he is asking as "Oh that doesn't apply to me"...

I don't know about you, but last time I ordered a latte I refrained from snogging the barista.

But you touched the cup, the door, the point of sale machine, and probably a few other surfaces along the way.

So you are defining social contact as buying a coffee? So you now don't go to any shops?

If the UK has any sense, going to shops for non-essential reasons will soon be prohibited. As it is in a number of other countries.

Good job I'm only 69, walking 5 miles a day, or more.. playing tennis regularly... Wouldn't want to be 10 months older and have to be locked in..
I am only 66, but I have Type1 diabetes and chronic asthma so while I’m able to get exercise I’m facing the prospect that meeting anyone could effectively kill me.

Quite frankly I’m ****ting myself.

This is why I wish the government forced us to not interact. I am minimising all contact with others, but so many just don't think it applies to them. I am more worried about passing the virus than getting it myself. I don't want to be the vessel that kills.

Me too, but sadly the “I’m all right Jack” level seems to be rising as well...

And this is sadly why we have to have the government forcing our hands.

This is a GLOBAL crisis, it applies to everyone, so unfortunately they have to force what are normally quite unacceptable restrictions on all our lives to save lives.

Didn’t every other country that is in lockdown start with saying “limit social contact” and not enough people did so they moved on to lockdown?

That will happen here by the end of the week I’d guess. Already had a number of messages about going out tonight for a few as will be last chance for a while

...which in turn will spread it. All Boris has done is say "hey you lot go out have one final hurrah, infect as many as you can and then we'll go in lockdown"

Yeah I agree, not sure why they think the UK public will be any different to a lot of other countries when “advised” to stay in. People just won’t, only way is to close everything that is worth going out for
