For simplicity, let's say I was born in Hebden Bridge in 1958. I love football & wanted to support a professional football team because of this love of the game. Then why the difference in your own City versus another City .
Why support a place you dont come from over your own ?
I find it bizarre and can never get my head around it .
There are possibly 20-25 professional teams within the environs (50-60 miles) of Hebden Bridge, none of which I can realistically reach as a kid or for a number of years for lack of fiinancial assets/income.
Lo and behold, throughout the 60's & 70's the only exposure I get is through the TV, primarily Liverpool and Manchester United broadcast games. A few more on the radio ( Spurs, Notts Forest, Leeds and Derby). There's still nowt close to Hebden Bridge.
My dad gets a job in a coal mine 20 miles north of Newcastle in '68, and the family is dragged off to live up there.
Where's my home town club allegiance and identity ?
I made my choice as a 10 year old.
It seems not too many have moved around from the cloistered district of of Hull.
