I remember that Oxford from the 4th division beat Blackburn 5th round in 1964. They were new to the football league, but won the tie 3-1. Not sure if they were the first, but they are now in league 1.
And the answer is..........Watford ! As a fourth division club we got to the 5th round in the 1959/60 season - beating Southampton and Birmingham before going out to Sheff Utd - and I got it before Frenchie
And the answer is ... "watford. ! " Of course ! Tuesday 2md February - replay. Barry Hartle (what a good player to watch) scored. Well done - take it away !
1912 it was stipulated that the goalkeeper should wear a different coloured shirt to the rest of his team...
Actually that might be the case Yorkie, but there is something else which was more important than this.
More or less there Yorkie. They could handle the ball anywhere in their own half, as long as they didn't run with the ball. They were allowed to bounce it like a basketball player. Very few goalkeepers did actually come out of their goals in those days because they had next to no protection and could be physically battered - so very few took advantage of this rule. Previous to 1870 any player could handle the ball to stop a goal. Over to you.
Could this be Banksy's latest work the 'Scar of Bethlehem' ? Where the star appears to be a bullet hole.
