The ‘in my opinion’ debate I’m pretty sure if everyone stuck to only passing on facts on here and never gave their opinion this board would grind to a halt. No one would know that in some weirdo’s opinion it is acceptable to put curry sauce in fish for example...and knowing that makes you appreciate how little your own problems are. ...just my opinion mind you.
But Den, putting curry sauce on Haddock & Chips, isn't right. It's just wrong, wrong, wrong. That's not just my opinion, it's a FACT! I do love dipping buttered toast in a mug of tea though. Yeah, yeah, you're all gonna hate me now, but don't knock it until you've tried it. The butter leaves an oily butterly slick on the top of your Yorkshire tea and all becomes good with the world. Everything suddenly makes sense.
I'll try to simplify matters even though this Toast character thinks I'm stupid for having an opinion he doesn't agree with. I didn't agree with a lot that Chris Needler, Bob Chapman, Ian Blakey, Martin Fish, David Lloyd, The Sheffield Mafia, Paul Duffen and even the Allams have done. There may be others I've forgotten and I hope people are not offended about being left out, but I didn't think taking my bat home would improve matters. You turn up and support the team through thick and think. If not enough people did exactly that we would have ended up like Scarbourgh FC, and nearly did under Fish and Co. Many didn't, they chucked their scarves in a corner and deserted the club in their hour(s) of need, many latched onto other clubs and even other sports, and the facts clearly show that fans disowned this club by huge numbers for a long, long time. We spent a generation and more at the bottom of the pile. I know quite a few like myself who still attend, the same faces, although a lot younger, who stood on the Kempton with the other 3,000. It's their opinion I listen too. That may offend the easily offended because sometimes the truth does hurt. Boycotting for what ever reason just makes us look like a small time outfit with a fickle fan base and perhaps we are, as I said sometimes the truth hurts. That is my opinion. Perhaps I should have started a new thread with a warning that some people might be easily offended and the post may contain material people don't agree with ?
It's a damn right disgrace, Glennon Chip shop curry goes on sausage and chips. Maybe pie and chips. And scraps and a breadcake.
So, you've just proved my point. First of all don't tell me what I think, you don't know what I think and I never said you were stupid for having an opinion that wasn't the same as mine. That method of psychology is tiresome and can be found on page 1 of 'poor me' 101. I fully understand what you are saying, but for the reasons you've stated, people are well within their rights to boycott. Younger fans didn't have to go through Fish, Needler et al, so how can you expect them to follow the lead of those that did? How could they possibly relate? It isn't up to you to tell people whether they are supporters or not, everybody supports the club in different ways. I still go, but I do so for different reasons than others. It doesn't offend the easily offended, that's another cop out line that needs to be chucked out. You're looking at the generation that grew up watching South Park, Jackass, Dirty Sanchez and The Thick of It, while playing the likes of Grand Theft Auto, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Turok the Dinosaur Hunter. If anything, the younger you get, the less 'offended' you get by things. Kids now are almost impervious to violence and other stuff. Saying that stuff offends people is a misnomer. If they're pulling people up on stuff, it's because it isn't ****ing acceptable. It wasn't acceptable in the 70s to do to gays, women and black people what some did, the difference is these days people don't just accept it as a social norm out of fear of becoming a pariah. That's not my opinion, by the way. That's just the way it is.
Kids now are impervious!!? The most sensitive weak easily offended generation we’ve ever had, I think not.
Pennock is the cheap replacement, McClaren will be the alternative. Other than an absolute weird OTT appointment, forget the rest!
[QUOTE="Billy Big Bollocks - 'Boycotting for what ever reason just makes us look like a small time outfit with a fickle fan base and perhaps we are, as I said sometimes the truth hurts'. Were the thousands of Liverpool fans that walked out during a game against Sunderland (i think) a couple of seasons ago, considered 'small time' and 'fickle'? Their protest was against ticket prices I believe.
