Had 9 holes last Weds which was my first outing for a couple of weeks due to weather / fence building /Amsterdam.....and it ****ing showed. I was awful off the tea, i'm gonna go and try some new drivers out this weekend I think up at Parklands and pay for a fitting I think (£25) and see what works best for me. The missus paid for a couple of lessons for my birthday which I'll book in for soon and focus on ball position and stance I think. My distance control on the putting green seems to be improving massively, which is good so there's no reason I shouldn't be in the high %'s for GIR and 2 putting for birdie/par most times.

I ended up tagging along with a couple of lads who were playing in a competition from the 4th to the 7th so we were playing off the white tees. Drove the green on 6th which is the one that falls away down the bank to the right from the tee box, I was within 10ft of the pin...the lads down at the 7th tee said it trickled past the hole, they were convinced it was going in <laugh> . I'll tee off another 100 times from there and never do that again I reckon.

Gonna head out after work tonight and play 9 again I reckon and top the t-shirt tan up a bit more :1980_boogie_down:

Cracking stuff Crone mate, if you can get the sixth green off the tee that's good going. There are so many theories when it comes to driving, I like to have the ball square to my left foot, it seems I can keep it straighter this way. The reason it goes to the right is if I let the club face open. The trick, they say, is to bring your right hand through and over like if you put topspin on a tennis shot. Too much and you go left though. Very fine margins mate!

Aye definitely mate, need to get to a range sometime soon and work on a few things, think I've still got a couple of cards with balls on them for Beamish so might head there at the weekend. Used to go to Beggars wood years ago, not sure if that's still there like.

My driver is probably about 10 years old now and is 9.5 degree loft...I think I need something more like a 10.5 possibly which is why I wanna try a few things out. It's not like you can just go and buy 5 different drivers to try and then send back the ones you don't like is it....so many variables.

Didn't make the eagle on the 6th tho but made the birdie....I would've ****ing launched me bag if I hadn't I reckon.

What make of driver are you going for - went to get my clubs out this weekend to go down the driving range and found that my daughter had stolen my driver. Had a Callaway before and really liked it but thinking of going with a Taylor made this time.

I've got a cleveland one at the moment which was fairly new when i bought it for £50 from a guy at my last workplace. At the time I was just starting to get back in to golf and I wouldn't have known whether it was a pile of ****e or not. Knowing a bit more about things now and technology having advanced as it has it's probably a pile of ****e. Might be worth having a lesson or two and working on a few things with the big stick before deciding to replace it once and for all. I do need a hybrid/rescue club as I don't have one of those at the minute and would like something longer than the 4 iron I currently have in my bag so might just invest in something along those lines for now. I've never really tried any other drivers really so i'm open to suggestions. I'm watching a few on ebay at the minute (Taylormade) so it'll probably either be that or Callaway as well I reckon. I will probably replace my irons before the end of the year all being well, I quite fancy Mizuno or Ping for my irons...I'm not really that fussed about them all being the same if I'm honest. The one thing i'll be keeping though is the Scotty Cameron Newport putter I bought a good 7-8 years back, needs re-gripping but other than that it's in pristine condition and I love it. They're still going on ebay for £150 ish in good nick, possibly more if the right mug comes along so i can easily get back what I paid for it I reckon if I ever decide to change.

Yep I love my Cobra Hybrid 4.. Tend to use it off the fairway on Par 5’s rather than a Wood. Its very forgiving and travels a long way when you hit it sweetly. Courses here tend to be quite long so good club to have in the bag.

A mate gave me a Callaway driver same as mine but with a much stiffer “pro” shaft. It hits very straight but can’t hit as far as my normally shafted driver. I don’t think my club head speed is quick enough for it. Amazing what a difference you can get by messing around with the shafts etc.

Planning on getting out again once we finish fasting as 4hrs in the sun with no water is just too much.

I purchased a golf shot tracker and went to the range. I never knew for definite what my shot range was per club and oh boy did I learn a few things about my ability. None of it was good! I’ll have to book a few lessons and get sorted. What an annoying game!

Played Rudding Park (Harrogate) on Wednesday, its a fairly easy course but I was all over the place. First outing for a few weeks but bloody hell it was like I'd never played before. Fluffing pitches and chips was horrible. Taking four from 15 yards out is not fun when it's already taken three to get there.

On the plus side everyone else there was a Leeds fan so at least the 19th was fun ....

It takes a while to get back into it mate, even warming up on the range beforehand helps. I know a Leeds fan who said they'd pass us on the way down this season. Oh yeah? <laugh>
 
My playing partner didn't make it the other morning so I went out in my own which actually I usually enjoy. Started to get the dog with the two ahead of me who despite having a cart were holding me up and I just lost the plot. Couldn't hit a thing all of a sudden. I just walked off and went to the range to sort my head out. I've been really noticing that I have been improving a lot recently as gwtting out a fair bit thso Iink I just started putting too much pressure on everything because I was left with my own thoughts rather than having someone else around for the usual chit chat.

Same here, slowcoaches up front who show no etiquette in letting you through can throw you of your game. My club is full of them.

Just ask the Mrs along next time. She can also act as a caddy as well as a pressure reliever.
