So it's Bob Hope or no hope this season, like the last few mind<doh>...<laugh> Lets hope Steve can take what we have to the next level and win a few more games.

It's going to be another long and nail biting season.

    Up the Rangers<cheers>

What a load of old carp from Hoos.
"bids but we turned them down as they did not meet our valuation". Who were they planning to sell?

"However, the early closure of the transfer window this summer significantly changes the landscape and this can be used to our benefit. We are looking to bring loan players in". They were telling us not long ago that loans were not the way forward?

Do that not realise we are not stupid.

I wouldn't say you were wrong, but then I don't think what I said was wrong either. The point I've been trying to make to various people is that the club doesn't have debts because the owners regularly convert them to equity. They didn't have to do that and I think they deserve some credit for it. They have been incredibly stupid of course, but it's their money after all.

A win sooner rather than later would do us the world of good. Beat Sheffield U and the world will seem a different place. U R's!

Every player has a price. I think you’re reading into it too much.

It doesn't mean they were planning to sell anyone, but that they may have done if someone offered silly money.

The early window close is advantageous in that there will be a lot of surplus players available for loan on reasonable terms.

The big spending Champ clubs surely need to loan out some players. Really good players not getting in squads now.

Also unattached players. Onuoha still lurking for someone.

The reality though is that we lost some decent players who were out of contract the end of last season. The squad is weaker starting this season than it was ending last season. A lot depends on the young players coming good.

I think the accounts show that the club still owes them money and they are still loaning the club more, and that we have to trust it will continue to be written off via share conversion. No reason to believe it won’t be, because there is no way they will get back even the interest on these loans, they must be doing this because either they love the club, or they are guilty about the mess they made, or they are idiots. But we continue to be a loss making (technically) debt heavy concern, so it’s not accurate to describe us as debt free, we wouldn’t look like that to a potential buyer unless current shareholders wrote off what they are owed (as they would have to).

Anyway, I think fundamentally we agree, I can’t think of a realistic scenario which is better for the long term health of the club without these guys. Even a new owner can’t just throw money at players without risking another FFP jeopardy. A new owner with a new stadium in W12 in his/her back pocket would be fun though.

Bashing our current owners might be fun to some but it makes no real sense. They made mistakes but man are they paying for them, they have shielded the club from the impact, and it would likely be worse without them. They get credit, but not much respect from me.

I don't think anyone bashing our current owners thinks it is fun to do so. It's frustration!! There can't be one single fan who honestly thinks this club has been ran well. The Hoos comment about getting bids for players, where before, we were paying them to go, sums it up perfectly. I and I presume others too, get no joy from comments like that, I get no joy from our situation which is looking worse than last season. It is all frustration and anything but fun!!

OK, technically not debt-free at any given point because the owners keep putting more money in. They have consistently converted these loans to equity, though, and seem committed to continuing that policy. The point remains that the stories of the club being in eyewatering debt (see DT's debt table) are just not true.

Bashing the owners for trying to put right what they got wrong (when they could have just done a Chris Wright) just seems perverse to me.

This is what I worry about. We seem to be putting a lot of pressure on them. Last season Holloway stated that the younger players lacked experience and need to be introduced gradually.

Fair enough Bob. I think the basic tension is between the frustration about the overall quality of the squad and the real financial position, and I can’t see a responsible way out of that, we can’t seriously strengthen the squad without digging the financial hole deeper.

Some people (definitely not you) do get pleasure out of making the same negative points again and again about the owners, who have definitely been inept but are trying to make up for it by turning the club into a going concern. Obviously it’s a thankless task, but we would have quickly been in Portsmouth’s position of a few years ago without them.
Not going to stop though is it, at least until we are promoted to the PL when the banshees will encourage them to make exactly the same mistakes again.

We need to practice the art of delayed gratification. Frankly I haven’t got so much delaying time left in me, but I’ll try. For you it’s must be a question of urgency ......:emoticon-0103-cool:
