And I agree with you.

I don’t.

It is FFs responsibility to perform. I get that people got on his back, but these people are trained, have counselling and development etc. I just don’t buy into that. If he plays that poorly due to fans reaction the he simply hasn’t got the mental strength to be better, therefore his issue and our place is better served shipping him out and replacing.

He did have much of a crisis of confidence signing on for £80k pw ffs, he got down low enough and fast enough to squiggle on his contract.

I don't think FF is rubbish, I just think he does better behind a confident and solid back 4/5. We haven't had that for a while and he's never looked good since we lost it. That said, he's not a patch on McCarthy and I would worry if Alex picked up an injury.
It must be horrendous though, playing in front of your home fans and getting the kind of jeers and abuse that he was getting before McCarthy claimed the number one spot.

When People get on a players back there should be little doubt that it affects the player.
Trouble is Fraser made a couple of mistakes which he was aware of and that with the baying of the crowd affected him badly. He lost confidence and tried to correct things but as most people know with people constantly niggling at you sometimes it only gets worse. You then start blaming yourself and actually believing the baying of the crowd.
A good manager could have helped him get past this however the manager had other issues to contend with and took the easier of the options available to him. Hoping it would take the heat off him which of course it didn't. Fraser is a good keeper and with the right manager will regain his form but whether that can be achieved at Saints is another thing.

I'm happy enough to swap out Forster as long as the price we get for Forster + wage savings are greater than the price of the new goalie + new wages + loyalty payments to forster + tax, so we actually make money from it, and the goalkeeper we buy is a good as forster, and the team who's buying forster doesnt notice we are buying a cheaper, better player and go after him instead.

If he ever gets his confidence back and realises that he can dominate the box instead of allowing the box to dominate him he can still be the top notch keeper that we bought in the first place. Sadly he probably need to move now to achieve that.

My argument always has been, and I stand by this, he wasn't playing well because the fans were on his back and it shattered his confidence. The same thing has happened with Redmond too.

Then you really need to finish this theory with why the players were on their backs in the first place.... I'm not supporting the fans here btw but you are using their poor behaviour to twist the reality.

Agree. In the beginning there were a small minority who jeered because he wasn’t playing well. This may have increased to a level which may have been audible, but I don’t buy that his downfall was because of the fans. The defence was poor and the whole team lost confidence. Still think Fraser is a class keeper but his time here might be up.
As for redmond I just don’t think he is as good as he looks (or want him to be). He improved under Hughes but I don’t think he is a good enough winger for us going forward.

I think jeering your own players is pathetic and felt sad for Fraser when it happened.

That doesn't mean I didn't lose all faith in him as he let in long shot after long shot. That wasn't confidence, that was awful technique and diabolical concentration.

I agree, in a lot of cases it was a complete lack of footwork prior to diving. Possibly impacted by his previous knee injury, or a fear of getting a new one.

He had a serious injury when the team were doing well, and by the time he came back the defence was leaking like a sieve. No wonder he lost confidence, especially with the morons in the Northam getting on his back.

Oi. It wasn't just our morons. He got undeserved **** from around the ground. It's just that The Chapel threw down their crochet hooks in disgust!

True, but with one year left on his contract he can really do what he likes. We can either extend his contract (which we could have done any time before now), sell him (for maybe £3m) or let him go for free in a year (which I expect now). Forster has about 5 years on double the salary, he can only really go somewhere like Chelsea.

Definitely, and if we don't see him as a starter, then I have no major misgivings about allowing McCarthy to move on. Gunn's a very well-regarded prospect, and while I'm not terribly fond of developing other people's youngsters, he might be the best keeper we can get our hands on, and we may not be in a position to be too picky when it comes to high end talent.

What makes you think it is a loan?

If McCarthy's price is really only 3 million (which I doubt), we might as well keep him for this season and take the hit....finding keepers is one of the hardest recruitment jobs. We've probably missed the chance of extending his contract.....didn't think we needed to before, so he is probably reluctant to do so now the ball is in his court. He is in the photographs of the new kit....if anything can be read into that.

Southampton are willing to pay 20 million euros (£17.6m) for Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer, 24, but face competition for the Spaniard from Turkish side Fenerbahce. (Mundo Deportivo - in Spanish)

Another player we have been consistently linked with in the past year or so, so rumour may have legs. I used to really rate Alcacer when he was at Valencia, can't get into the team at Barca so I can see him wanting a move away. He is a finisher who will thrive on service, so if we are to get him we really need someone who can create, otherwise I can't see him being the answer to our goal scoring problems.
