I can't see any experienced PL manager taking the job on a long term contract. I guess they would have to be paid big bucks until the end of the season with a release clause if we are relegated. If, we manage stay up Gao can give him all the tea in China and a hefty bonus and a 2 year contract. I imagine the deal is done whoever is coming and we'll know by Wednesday.
I believe in our squad (yes, I am that deluded) and I think that we are perfectly capable of avoiding relegation, but we had got stuck in a rut. Any decent manager could jump start us to safety....a change was needed.
MP3, that's music to my ears! But seriously, we need someone with experience to step in. We are looking for immediate improvements & points, no time to learn.
I think it will be Hughes. He has jumped jobs quickly before which suggests that's not a problem. Also, there really is a lot of limitations to appointing someone with only eight (hopefully 11) games to go. We are going to struggle to attract our first choices.
https://talksport.com/football/list...-he-has-no-interest-taking-vacant-southampton MLT says he isn't interested in the Saints job....thank heavens for that. A man who knows his strengths and limitations.
Which would tally with what I heard. We wanted him, but perhaps he also needed to say ‘yes’ too! (Going to Everton or Benfica next season?)
I’ve given up being disappointed in Les Reed, and just gone straight to acceptance that the man’s a berk.
I only remember his goal that never was....he'd have been given it if goal line technology had been in place. Or a lino with eyes.
I have a feeling it is likely to be Mark Hughs...........If it is him and he is given a decent contract hopefully for once the board actually back the manager to the hilt.
Mark Hughes is a decent enough shout. If he does well in the remaining 8 games we can look forward to PL football next season. One thing I like about him is he will get into the players etc, something we have sorely lacked in recent seasons.
And he has a back room team. We need a whole level back to a good standard. Help the players enjoy their jobs once more.
I think Hughes as a short term appointment to try and save us for the drop would be good but certainly not convinced longer term. Would rather have someone more "progressive" I don't think Hughes will come to us because we won't let him bring in his large entourage and he is "old school" and would want full control over transfers (won't go into it any more as don't want to appear in court charged with libel) which he wouldn't have
